this, that, the other (again)

Thank you all so much for positive comments and encouragement on my Jubilee quilt.  It means so much to have a cheering section!

Several people commented on my Eagle quilt so I thought I'd review this quilt that I finished in 2008.

It's called "Obama For President" but I had to change that to "Olympic Eagle" (to be non-political) for the Vermont Quilt Show.  It is, to this day, the only eagle quilt I know featuring black eagles.  I named the quilt just after he spoke at the democratic convention...

It's a pattern from "antique quilts and how to make them".
I started it during the opening ceremonies of the winter olympics in Turin, Italy.  Another commemorative quilt?  yep. I guess it's one of my thangs.

I put an Olympic ring in each of the beaks and one of his tallons.

Here is a photo of me at the Vermont Quilt Show, 2008.  It was awarded a blue ribbon - very exciting!

So, what am I up to?
A little (more) of this-

And some of these-

And finally, how fun is this?  Beth is having a pincushion parade!  My pincushion cup runneth over!  Thank you to all my friends who have contributed to this collection.

Have a fun week!

Thank you for explaining the eagle quilt. I think the black eagles are spectacular. I never would have guessed what they represent.
My favorite of your pincushions is the drum shaped one with birds on the side.

The history of quilts is fascinating to me, whether antiques or more recent ones. Thanks for sharing your story.
What fun you must be having, moving from one project to the next.
Your stars are gorgeous.

Beautiful post. I too love the 'story' of a quilt as much as seeing the quilt. Your pin cushions are wonderful - how nice they have memories of friends.
Great WIPS - you have a wonderful way with prints/color.

Another reason I'm such a fan--your great imagination and quilts! I love that you got all five Olympic rings in there (and I also love the original name, too). Well done--bravo!

Your eagle quilt is stunning, and the story behind it is wonderful. You certainly earned your blue ribbon.

Your pincushion collection is charming! I'd love to hear the stories behind them. Love the chickens and the pie, and my favorite is the 8-pt. star in the middle.

Your Eagle Quilt is fantastic Barb. I love that you have dedicated it to your President (who think is fantastic and hopes he gets re elected) and also included the Olympic Rings.

I am planning on starting Lori's quilt on the weekend, love all the ones I have seen on the internet so far.

You have a wonderful collection of pincushions there!

Eagles...love them. I really love your version of this pattern. I bought an old quilt top that I plan to restore as the green shields had shredded. Their feet were very peculiar too...really like your eagles feet!!!
The elements you add to your quilts which link to contemporary events is such an interesting factor....a little bit of history in each thing you do....very insightful.
