whole lotta nuttin'

Thank you for all the great book suggestions!

It seems we are hitting the doldrums of summer here, which is actually quite nice.  Most of my days seem to be a filled with a little of this....a little of that.... and not much.  I think they call it the dog days of summer.

I did finish designing the last two blocks of my Hot Flash quilt.  This was a bit of challenge working with all these different prints. (gosh red is hard to photograph!)

and I've been making patches for the nine patch swaps which are due here to me on October 1st.

My Sailor took part in this year's Chicago to Mackinac Island yacht race.  He was part of a 8 man/woman crew aboard Slapshot, a 135ft. J109 sailboat.  The race is 333 miles.  They started on Friday at mid-day and finished on Monday at mid-day.  They came in 5th in their class - Congrats to the Crew of Slapshot!!

I picked up this pretty plate at a flea market recently .  How could I resist red and white, transfer-ware and my new great state of Connecticut.   Love the gilded fluted edge.  $8.00

I also picked up this wonderful folk art painting.  I love the simplicity of it.  The frame is nice and plain.  It looks great in the kitchen.  $12.00

Hanna and I found these socks shopping in New Port.  We laughed so hard.  They had others with foul language.  I would have bought them all, it was hard to pick.

Tomorrow I'm off to Hershey, PA for the Quilt Odyssey show.  If you see me say hello!

Your Hot Flash quilt is just how summer in S. Louisiana feels! Dog days of summer, to be sure! Fun transferware! A quilt show in Hershey sounds heavenly - especially if the temps are even a little cooler than here!

Your hot flash quilt pretty much sums up today's temps here. It looks hot and flashy! Congratulations to the Slapshot team! Fifth place is pretty incredible!. I took a break from nine patches this week. Love your addition of pinks for light.
You got that painting for $12? Lucky you!

Hot Flash looks fabulous! Sounds like you are getting settled into your new state pretty good if you are beginning to find some fun shopping haunts. Those are always the last thing I find in a new place. Thanks for a fun summery post!

Congratulations to the sailors, now that looks like fun.
The socks are cute and your flea market finds are wonderful, I love that painting and would have snapped it up too.
I will be seeing you in Hershey, have a safe trip!
Oh and last night I had a dream about nine patches.......

Hot flash is looking great. Love the red!
Congrats to your sailor! That's a lot of hard work.
I'm finding great yard sales here in my new town. It's so fun to find new treasures for a pittance.

I have a plate almost identical to yours, mine is green. My hubby was born and raised in CT and we met at UCONN. We haven't been back in over 20 years. Enjoy for us.

The hot flash quilt is striking. Nice variety on the angled corners -- your favorite birds, the leaves, and "Barb." Very cool! If a person isn't looking, the different forms really don't jump out and say "Look at us; we're different."
Late response to your last post. I'd love to see an 18" Baptist fan template. Hopefully you can convince that company to produce one.
I'm starting my blocks for the swap. Your instructions are great, and I'm looking forward to making perfectly accurate 9-patches.

This is a post full of fun things!! I love Hot Flash, those colours are electric!! Your 9 patches are as sweet as strawberry and chocolate icecream. Well done to the crew of Slapshot. Your new plate and painting are wonderful finds. The painting has a lovely sense of light in it, and I like the simple frame. I'm laughing at the socks!!

Hahaha -- those socks are hysterical! Your Hot Flash looks wonderful -- sashing now? put together as-is? And the race sounds super fun -- the lakes are gorgeous in the summer -- Congratulations to your team!

Yowee! "Hot Flash" looks so great. The way the various prints play in those shapes is really intriguing. Congratulations! Love that painting too.

Nothing "doldrum" about this post--lots of fun!!
Very flashy quilt--all that red is exactly how I feel at times!!
Wanted to participate in the 9-patch swap, but knew it wasn't realistic for me. Became even less realistic when my mom ended up in the hospital. Glad I didn't commit and disappoint anyone. Your blocks are lovely!
Great painting and I think the frame is a perfect fit. I love simple wood frames.

Those socks are a riot! Your hot flashes blocks look great - I think a red background could be challenging to work with as well as to photograph. Congrats to your sailor! Have fun at the quilt show :0)

If I had those socks I would put my unshod feet up on my desk. Especially the math ones - for all my quant friends to goggle at.
