Sweet Little Leftovers

Here is a little doll quilt that I recently made using leftovers in my sewing room.

Here is a close up so you can see the quilting.

I was doodling some new ideas for machine quilting and came up with this:

I used a walking foot for the main lines of the fans.

Then I used my new weighted hoop for the free motion portions.  I really really like the hoop!

At first I forgot my teflon sliding sheet.  I have to say that the sheet is really needed.

Here is a link to Amazon where you can purchase the hoop and sliding sheet.

Here is a view of the backing.

I need help!  Over the weekend, I visited Susan in CT and we went to a local quilt show.  We both loved this folk art quilt by Harriet Powers.

There is a Pattern book for this quilt, but it is not available for purchase.  Does anyone have this booklet?  Would anyone be willing to lend it to me?  It looks like this:

I have my fingers double crossed!!  If you post this search request on your blog, I will send you a small thank you gift.

  3. Nice little doll quilt and fun quilting. I do not think that you need an instruction booklet for that quilt. You can just look at the picture and draw it out. There is a copy of that quilt hanging in a local church here. It is a well loved design.

  10. There is a Rizzoli Art Series book titled "Harriet Power's Bible Quilts" by Reginia A Perry. The book is larger size and has double page pictures of the quilts. Then enlargements of many of the blocks. You can trace and enlarge. Amazon has used copies available.

  21. Great idea to use up the leftovers in a doll quilt. I like the quilting you've done--interesting detail in between the fan rows. Looks like you chalked the lines on your quilt with brown chalk??

Good luck on the book hunt. If you haven't found it by the beginning of next week, I'll be happy to post the query on my blog (and I don't need any gift--just happy to do it).

  22. Barb,
I love this little quilt. I am going to have to try the hoop and the sliding sheet. Little quilts are perfect to try new techniques and gadgets. I need to do more of that.
No clue on the booklet but oh I love that quilt! You will do a great justice to that pattern.

  23. What a sweetie & I like your ideas for machine quilting (still scares me). Very interesting that you can sew fans with a walking foot - now, that I would try.
My quilt book library is extensive, but I've not seen this before - good luck!
