Cabin Fever!!

Seems to me there is a trend of Log Cabin quilts lately.  I think it is a wonderful, traditional pattern.

Here is my quilt "Little Quilt on the Prairie".  I swapped finished blocks with my buddy Jill.



The backing is this fun vintage print advertising fabric.


The pattern is published in the new issue of Quilt Almanac 2013.


After being away I wanted to come home and sew something.  So I made this little doll quilt.  The logs are 3/4".  I think it would look great as a full sized quilt too.

 
I always think quilting these are a challenge.  I did what I call "Asian water" in the black furrows and diagonal lines in the tan furrows.


The backing is this great print of Mexican beads.


I also experimented with a red and tan combo.


Here is the back.  I quilted it with one large fan.  I'll probably use it for a candle or on my bedside table.

On my next quilting post, I'll share with you a log cabin UFO that is nearly 20 years old.  How did that happen?

    Congratulations!! Your quilt looks great in the magazine - fabulous and scrappy. I will have to look for a copy. You're such a talented quilter!! :0) The little black quilt is lovely - the quilting is very effective. I need to go sew right now!!

    I love log cabin quilts and am working on one now too! I LOVE your quilt and the layout...will have to find the magazine
    congrats on getting it published its wonderful!

    both of the new ones are adorable! will send you a picture of a quilt with great quilting idea for these quilts

    Look at you, published and everything! What a delightful pattern--I love the 4-patch centers!
    And that black and gold mini (be still my heart!), just gorgeous.
    Tan and red are great together (throw in a little black and I am helpless).

    BTW, I love the name "Asian Water", just wish I could see what it looks like. : )

    Count me in as a log cabin fan, although it's been ages since I've made one. And...you always seem to have the most amazing backing fabrics! The Mexican bead fabric is fabulous!

    Congratulations on the magazine!! The log cabins are all wonderful - you always have the best backing fabric. I am working on a log cabin too - for me it is a stash-buster for the start of a new year.

    Your quilt is wonderful and it's great that it was published. Now everyone can enjoy it. I especially like how you laid out the blocks to create a secondary pattern with the lights and darks. It would be fun to do an exchange with friends. Good idea.

    I absolutely love this log cabin quilt. The 4-patch centers would seem to be such a simple change from tradition, but what a dramatic difference it makes in the look of the finished quilt. It really is quite stunning. And how exciting to have it published! I'll be on the lookout for that issue. This is quite the post. One beauty after another, Barb. Makes me want to get out my skinny little strips and get going on some log cabin blocks.
    By the way, your use of unique, interesting backing fabrics is always great fun to see. It makes me brave enough to try some unusual ones myself, now and then. Thanks for leading the way!

    The log cabin you made with blocks made by you and Jill is wonderful, wonderful. I have quite a fondness for log cabin quilts. This one has added interest with being scrappy and the four patch in the blocks.

    Fabulous log cabin quilt - love the setting!!
    Will look for that magazine on Wednesday when I go shopping ...a big congrats to you!!
    just finished a large log cabin before Christmas & now The wedding quilt I am piecing is a log cabin in two colors. Never have done that before - most have been scrappy or multi at least.

    Love all the log cabins but especially the block swap first one - stunning on a large scale like that! Haven't done a log cabin for a long time but I can imagine that getting addictive :)

    Of course, I love log cabin quilts and your is amazing! I think I'll get the magazine so I'll maybe remember that I should make it some day. I'm working on a log cabin quilt now, so don't want to start another one just yet. How big are the blocks?

    Awesome log cabin quilts. They are beautiful and fun! I bought that magazine and was drooling over the log cabin. Perhaps it's time to make one. It is snowing big juicy flakes here in Dallas this morning. Perfect for sewing!!

    So I was sketching out a Log Cabin in church the other day (I promise I was listening) and put a windmill four-patch in the center of a Log Cabin block. So how cool to see your log cabin with a center block with some piecing. I loved your Log Cabin "show." Now I've got to get busy!
