I'm so late in posting my log cabins for the quilt-along hosted by Cecile' and Bea'. They have a great group of quilters making every kind of log cabin blocks project. Check out their websites for links.
Do not adjust your computer. These are all shades of gray. I am going for an Asian look or a stormy day at sea. I'm making a king sized quilt for my son, Andrew.
Here is a closer look
I finished my little hexie doll quilt. I recon that I have been working on this for about 5 years total. I have 4 "make do" blocks. can you find them?
Here is the back. I need a cute title for this, can you think of any?
I had a little fun with my doll bed and some of my favorite little dollies.
I made the little dolly in the pink dress. Her hair needs a hot comb.
I made a new little pillowcase to match it.
Yesterday while sewing, I enjoyed a PBS special on Wisconsin Quilting. It features many talented quilters, including Diane Gaudinski with her 911 memorial log cabin quilt.
Quilts of Wisconsin - click here to see the 2 hour show. (the photo below is not a link)
I also recently watched an episode of Fresh Quilting Series - you can watch here. The quilting with a walking foot segment with Jackie Gering was great.
Today I'm getting new countertops, range top and sink and boy is my kitchen turned upside down! The upside? No cooking again today.
Have a great week.
xo
Nice collection of grays and they make a good male style quilt. Especially in the log cabin blocks.
ReplyDeleteYour doll quilt is sweet as can be and fits the doll bed perfectly. Your dolls seem to be liking the new fixin's for their bed. Did you like to play with dolls when you were a child? I loved to!
Great work, Barb. Love the quilts. How many more blocks to go for the Asian Log Cabin? The blocks look big. I like it so far. Love the doll quilt. Love the doll even more. :^D Even the background of the doll quilt is "made do" I believe. So charming. Name that came to mind is "Growing Wild" as one flower is fussy cut and some are not so fussy cut and then, there's the "make do" ones. It looks like a field of wild flowers to me. Just thinking out loud. Thanks for the links. I'll watch them for sure. ;^)
ReplyDeleteBerry Nice doll quilt!
ReplyDeletethanks! since you have a blogger profile, you can attach an email for a direct response.
DeleteYour dolly is so sweet!
ReplyDeleteOh that little doll quilt is so adorable! That is my favorite green. How about "Sweet Pea" for a title? it is sooooo sweet! Your son will love that quilt. Actually, my daughter would love it too, so just in case he hates it... wink!
ReplyDeleteOh, you must have a LOT of grey fabric!! Looks like a great guy quilt.
ReplyDeleteThe hexie quilt is adorable. Took me a minute, but I found the four "make do" blocks. Hand quilted, and everything--good job! The only name that came to mind was, "Hexie Gets Dolled Up", but that is a mouthful for such a little quilt.
Kitchen makeover--very exciting!! If you can live through the mess it will be so worth it.
More sewing, less cooking! Yay! I love that green in your little quilt. The quilt for Andrew is going to be great! I've done that pattern in homespuns and loved it.
ReplyDeleteI looked at the sites but didn't see any particular block patterns given..did you just pick one and go with it? Love the grays-I've been collecting them for some time now but for something different that may or may not happen.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing the video of ((quilting with a walking foot segment with Jackie Gering)) I watched it and learned alot! I am going to go try this! Again, thanks for sharing the link! HUGS... and stitches
ReplyDeleteLove the gray quilt you are working on, it has a simple, but elegant look. Love the little doll quilt! And your cute dolls. Everyone has such creative ideas for names. Hexie Soup came to mind, or Pea Soup? I must be hungry! lol
ReplyDeleteWow, king size! Good for you. I love the doll quilt, how about calling it Posey? The backing is pretty awesome too.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up on the programs I will check them out. Be sure to post pictures of your new kitchen!
A lot of beautiful things, Barb. Thanks for sharing your links and for your QAL participation too. The fabrics used are wonderful. Do you think your king sized top will be finished for april first to count for the prize, please ?

ReplyDeleteThe kitchen makeover will be great in the end and in the mean time no cooking and more sewing. Thanks for the links to the shows. I'll enjoy them. All those shades a gray makes a very striking quilt. It has a real guy look. The little hexie quilt is adorable especially with your sweet little dollies.
ReplyDeleteThe fabric choices for your Asian-inspired quilt are great - very soothing palette! Thanks for the tip on the quilting shows. I will definitely check them out!

I just watched the video for Quilts in Wisconsin and enjoyed it thoroughly. We spent 18 mos in Wisconsin 2013-14 and I feel a love for that state. It was delightful to see all the quilt creations and to be reminded of the great village names; i.e. Glenbeulah, Menominee, Baraboo . . .
ReplyDeleteYour Hexie quilt is absolutely darling! I really like the soothing neutrals for Andrew's log cabin quilt.
