I had a hard time getting a good photo in late day sun. But I liked this one.
I showed this sneak peak on Instagram the other day.
I cut the excess gathering which I think looks neater from the front, especially with solid fabrics.
I machine quilted it with my favorite (thanks Pauline) Invisafil white thread. Not match stick but close 1/4".
I sew basted my Whig Rose last week.
I can now officially report that I really love the Hobb's Tuscany blend of wool and cotton batting.
It is very easy to needle and I'm happy to be hand quilting again!
I made a few cute girl masks this week. We will be needing these for a long time to come.
I hope you are doing okay and staying healthy.
Treat yourself to something cool and delicious....like gelato!
Thank you, Wendy, for the inspiration to make mini quilts. It has been such fun! She'll be sharing links of this month participants tomorrow on her blog.
See you again soon.

Congrats on this fun mini quilt! I love Gelato ... and gelato in general, lol. Such a fun fabric for the masks! Great work. ;^)
ReplyDeleteA great name for your quilt. I like the quilting, and I'm also a big fan of Invisifil thread. Glad to hear about the ease of stitching through the Tuscany wool batting. And yes, masks... we will be needing them for sure. Cute ones.
ReplyDeleteScoops of gelato -- perfect for these hot summer days! Can you share the pattern for your masks? I made the pleated version in April and May. I need to get back into business and I'd like to try the shaped version that you show. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteFun, fun mini! While it's not the same thing, maybe I'll go pick up a quart of our favorite custard for when our son, his fiancee and hubby get home tomorrow. Wish I could try some wool batting. But we live in a house built in 1947, and the wool eating bugs were here first. Cedar protects most woolens, but sometimes clothes in the back of the closet find a few moth holes. (And we don't use pesticides in the house.) So investing the time in hand quilting with a wool bat is risky. Your stitches are so well defined using it, though! Maybe a mini to try it... Thanks for the great post!
ReplyDeleteI'll take a scoop, please. Your mini is deliciously yummy. I'm a fan of Invisafil thread too. It just melts into the fabric.🍦🍦
ReplyDeleteI like the stripe binding on "Gelato".
ReplyDeleteTasty treat for the eyes! What is the size of the quilt?
ReplyDeleteI love seeing your modern mini each month, and love this one for its bright cheerfulness. Perfect topper for a porch bistro table! Good to hear the review of the Hobbs Tuscany wool-cotton blend batting. I've been wondering if it might be a good option.
ReplyDeleteNice finish on Gelato; and I love your choice of binding--it really picks all the colors up beautiful...nice work...
ReplyDeletestay cool and safe

Sew creative as always!! Which pattern are you using for masks, and are the ear elastics t-shirt strips?
ReplyDeleteCute mini! Love your binding fabric. Does the shadow play in your second picture temp you to make another mini with the shadow designed in?
ReplyDeleteLove this, so fun and you!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun idea. This quilt is so cheerful, just what we need right now. I love the binding, nice job.
ReplyDeleteLove your mini - on a hot day, scrumptious. I have used monofilament thread in the needle since I first learned to machine quilt... must try Invisafil when I get the chance. Oh your hand quilting is so perfect!
ReplyDeleteNice and fun finish on your mini !!
ReplyDeleteLast night I ate an ice cream and think of you and your gelato ah ah !! 🤣
I love your quilting too ! Great stitches !
Hugs !
Absolutely fabulous! Perfect summer mini! Delicious! Thank you so much for the testimonial on the Hobbs batting. I don't like their 100% wool as much as Quilter's Dream because it doesn't split well. I am anxious to try this one! Have a great weekend. And thanks for another great mini!
ReplyDelete"Gelato" is perfect for the summer - cool and refreshing!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the report on the Hobbs wool batting. I have a hand-quilting project in the wings, so maybe I will give it a try.
What a scrumptious July mini! I must try that Invisafil thread sometime. Glad to hear you like the batting and your quilting is perfection! Nice masks! Looks like you used potholder loops :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect fun summer quilt! The colors are so light and airy.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear your thoughts on the batting, I will give it a try. As usual your stitches are amazing!
I was looking at the basting stitches on your chrome quilt. Can you tell me how you bast. I usually pin or run long lines but I like how yours looks. Thank you for any help. Hugs,
ReplyDeleteI am really enjoying your modern minis this year, Barb. You are just so stinkin' creative! Only you could come up with something this fresh and refreshing on the heels of your Quarentini quilt. Love the colors, quilting, binding. Just spot on for a cool summer treat.
ReplyDeleteLove it! And I love gelato, but none to be found in my little town.
ReplyDeleteHow did you keep your quilt lines 1/4" apart?
Very Cute Barb! Yay for handquilting too -- it's looking gorgeous. And those masks are really fun -- you're too cute!
ReplyDeleteThis was such a treat to read. I agree with you on cutting out the back (I also think it lets the shape "puff" up a bit easier, and love your modern mini! Fun to see your Whig Rose, and your mask making, too. Yes, we'll be using masks for quite a while longer, I agree.
