What a weekend!
Saturday I went to the Red & White exhibit and the Empire quilt show with Susan H.
We met up with my blogger buddy; Sue and her friend, Sue. Here are the 3 Sue's and me.
The red and white exhbit was everything you've been hearing; incredible. Here is the first view you see before entering.
and the second; breathtaking!
Susan and I spent 3 hours in the red and white wonderland.
Here are my top pics:
And lo and behold; my best quilting friends from Chicago came! We had so much fun. I had a second helping of R&W with them on Tuesday! Sheila couldn't tear herself away from the quilts, love it!
On Sunday we had a special get together with Lori of Humble Quilts. at our mutual friend, Jill's house. I'll be back soon with the results of our antique block challenge.
I hope you are all enjoying the numerous reports of the red & white and I hope that the show will come to your area.
Thank you Joanna S. Rose and her family for the incredible gift to the city of New York and to quilt enthusiast world wide.
Great photos Barb! They really don't capture the essence of the exhibit though.
ReplyDeleteI really don't think I can name a favorite. So many great ones to choose from.
Oh you LUCKY LUCKY duck YOU!! What FUN...what a TREAT!! I am soooo glad you guys who got to see these quilts are sharing. Seeing them all over blogland is so inspiring!!
ReplyDeleteI saw Jill at the R&W exhibit on Monday and asked her to say 'hello' for me! Next time for sure.
ReplyDeleteThe fact that these quilts all belong to one woman just boggles my mind! I wonder where/how she stores them?
ReplyDeleteYou picked some great favorites. The quilting on them really grabs my attention.
What great fun that you were able to meet up with blog buddies! :)
OOOOHHHH, ARE they going to make it a traveling show??? (Don't toy with my emotions now!) You're SOOOO lucky. And can I just say -- all of the reports I've read -- your first two pictures are the only ones that truly give a sense of the grandeur and how spectactular that first vision must have been. I'm really hoping that it will travel -- I'd LOVE to see it. I briefly flirted with the idea of going to see it, but with other commitments, just couldn't do it.
ReplyDeleteWow - oh wowie wow. Thanks for the report!
I love the photo from the doorway, Barb! A "quilt tornado" is how the exhibit designer described in on Martha Stewart! How very, very cool!! The quilts you picked are awesome -- that quilting! Oh my word!! I love the "rick-racky" one, and the wheels, and the strippy. So wonderful! I told Lori that I'd bet you are an awesome show-mate! Looks like you had a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Mary Lou
I love seeing the favorites posted on the various blogs...not seeing lots of repeats! Thanks for sharing the photos...looks like a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteWOW! Honestly Barb, I don't know how you could pick a favorite! And the staging involved in that show is just amazing! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThe rick rack look quilt is very unusual. The quilting on it is spectacular. Thank you for sharing some pictures of the quilts.
ReplyDeleteyes we had a lot of the same favorites
ReplyDeleteI just still am just in awe at what I saw and experienced
it was amazing.
Kathie
So glad you had a fantastic time with the Sue's....and those photos are just amazing of those quilts...thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt was AMAZING, I really think it was a once in a lifetime event! You and I do like a lot of the same quilts....I really want to make a rick rack quilt now! Don't you think the scale of some of the quilts are what really made them say wow (big and small)? I am exhausted today from all the excitement...but really need to make a red and white!!!
ReplyDeleteso wonderful!!! happy for you getting to see these beauties. I have really been loving all the different Wheel variations that I've seen pictured. awesome.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are great! I was there on Saturday and again on Wednesday. The second visit was as good as the first. It's the best quilt exhibit I've ever seen. Hard to pick a favorite, but I think I could name my favorite 50. I'm so inspired.

First I heard the rumor of a book (or was that a demand, from LazyGalQuilting, LOL), now the rumor of a traveling show...
ReplyDelete...OMG, I hope so! We midwestern gals (and displaced southerners) would love to see this show too!! Thanks for sharing your great photos!
In stitches,
Teresa :o)
THANKYOU BARB! I was waiting for someone to post a full pic of the applique quilt with the moons and cats - I had seen snippets of it on lots of photos but never a "full frontal"! Could be one to reproduce.
ReplyDeleteThe "T" quilt is fab too, well they are all fab, but some are more so than others.
Gorgeousness overload.
Thanks for sharing these wonderful photos. You have some I haven't seen on other blogs. And you got to go twice! I am hoping the show travels.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it nice that the quilt blogs have linked up so many quilters who may never have met. Yet alone gotten to know one another and cheered each other on. :)
ReplyDeleteI love the strippy quilt.
Wasn't it wonderful? I went on Monday and was just awestruck at the way the quilts were hung and at the sheer variety of patterns. I can't wait for the book!
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous. I hope it comes to
ReplyDeletethe Houston, TX area.
Ya'll looked like you were having a great time.
it has been great to see all the reports on this wonderful exhibition, it has been a meeting place for friends and quilters from all around the world it seems. a wonderful creative experience given to us all by Joanna S Rose and her family as you say !
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful group of photos Barb! I am so jealous -- I'll be in town on Sunday -- toooooo late for the exhibit. So sad.....
ReplyDeleteDidn't the first view, as the doors opened, just take your breath away?! I am showing some of these pictures to my family, and non-quilting friends because it is just so amazing.
ReplyDeleteThe only negative I have to say is that I didn't get to meet you! Vicki and I kept hoping to see you :(
I love the pictures you've shared of the quilts. They are such extraordinary quilts - I love to see each one. I especially love to see the quilting - the bar quilt has such marvelous quilting designs.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to meet some fellow bloggers!!
It looks breathtaking. I doubt it'll ever come to the UK, but can keep my fingers crossed. Thanks so much for the photos, there are some wonderful quilts there.
ReplyDeleteHow amazing to be greeted at the entrance like that. The way that the quilts were displayed was incredible. I love these ones you've shown.
ReplyDeleteOMGosh Barb!! Your first two pictures were awesome!! I could feel the visual impact of the show, thank you soooo much!!

It was amazing and inspirational. Been working with my red marker on the layout for a design already. Area quilt shops are sure to run out of red and white! I love the bars quilt; amazing quilting on that one. Betsy and I were there for about an hour and a quarter and I took 168 photos!
ReplyDeleteYour photos are incredible! The best post of it that i have seen so far! I love the quilt with the Concentric circles, cant think of the name, tired. Gosh, i love them all! I did see on another blog a photo of a few quilts draped over chairs in a circle, which i thought was so neat, as if they were having a conversation with each other. Kind of hauntingly beautiful to me! All these ladies work, shining so brightly again! I can only imagine the energy there! The quilting amazes me! The textures! So I am not up on how the exhibit came to be... One person donated them all?!? Sorry, but im just not online as much anymore. So happy you got to go! Xo
ReplyDeleteI just can't get enough for these red-and-white beauties. It's wonderful that all the blog posts and videos are giving us non-attenders the chance to share in such a wonderful gift from Ms. Rose and her family.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, Barb. Yours give us a great look at all the exquisite quilting.
Barb,
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are incredible! Love every single one.. Oh I don't think I will ever forget this experience..
Rick-rack stole my heart! There were so many beautiful quilts. Love seeing all the blogger friends in the pictures too.
You have taken fantastic photos of the Red and White quilts.
ReplyDeleteThe lady that took the photos of us all didn't do a bad job after all.
Hi Barb. If ever there was a time to be jealous of getting to go to a quilt show, this was it. All those beautiful red and white quilts! At least Katie had a week here in Illinois that I needed to be home for!!
