Crafts and Carnival Lunch

Hooray!  I was able to get together with the cupcake girls last week.

We made potholders!  These are the potholders that I used to make as a girl.  I still have my original red metal loom from the late 60's.

****After publication this morning, due to early interest, here is a website that carries good, sturdy looms and cotton loops for making these wonderful potholders.  Have fun!****  http://www.kitkraft.biz/home.php?cat=214&gclid=CPacnuHoy6gCFaNd5QodDR3rpA

They are still my favorite potholders to use.   They sit patiently atop a covered pot, have a nice grip for carrying pots and they also make great trivets.

We started with a little sustenance.  Jill made these beautiful homemade lemon and poppy seed scones. They tasted as good as they looked.

Nothing pleases me more than a kitchen table covered with crafts.

Here is one that Susan was working on.

And one that I made.

This was my favorite on the day.  Jill's potholder looks like a four patch.

For lunch I decided to make junk food.  Hot Dogs with Saurkraut, Sweet Potato Waffle Fries and Root Beer Floats for dessert.

Carnival food is one of my favorite things.  If it's sold out of a brightly colored wagon, I love it.

Coco exhausted herself by jumping all over the girls when they arrived and then stealing a tiny chocolate bunny from Jill.  What a dogs life.

Still busy with 2 projects that I can't share yet.  I did go to a local quilt show and I'll share the photos later this week.

Have a great week!

  2. Oh, yes, I remember those! And as true quilters you've taken it to another level with all the different patterns. Did you all just figure it out or did you have instructions for the 4 patch, etc. They are much prettier than I remember. The scones look so yummy!

  5. I bought a new 'kit' about a year ago, but I was disappointed in the loops, they were thin and didn't make nice potholders. It was fun to do it tho.
Love all the pretty ones you all made.

  11. I remember those potholders too! I used to go to Ben Franklin to buy bags of loops. I made so many potholders, I would go up and down the street and try to sell them to neighbors.

  13. The pot holders look way more fun than my cork one. Even the food sounds a little foreign, lol. I don't know root beer or waffle chips but the hot dogs I do.

  15. I used to make those potholders when I was young. I gave them as gifts and tried to sell them. A neighbor lady bought a few. I recently bought a metal frame at an antique shop that had some loops with it. Thank you for the source for supplies. I have never seen the loops sold by color. And they are cotton. Hurray. What a fun day. I might have to try that with my little quilt group.

  18. I must have made a hundred of those potholders as a child...one of my favorite crafts! The
big milestone was when I could do the edges/finishing by myself...

  19. When I was 8 years old, my aunt gave me a potholder loom and my hands were busy from then on. Your posts brought back lots of memories from my childhood. BTW, I love the designs that were made by you and the girls.

  21. Okay, should I buy this now so I can have it for my 2 year old granddaughter in a few years?
I used to sell these door to door after making a huge bag full. All my sweet neighbors bought them from me back in the early 60's...what a great memory. You know it would be kind of fun to have a big girl party with these too :0).
thanks for the flashback to my childhood days :0).

    Happy Sewing
