Easter Review

I received the most wonderful thing in the world yesterday.  An unexpected gift for no reason at all:

This is a little quilt that I admire at my friend, Mary B's, house every time I stay with her.  There is just something about it that I love.  Don't you?

This will give you an idea of how small and sweet it it.  Here it is with my little scissors and my thimble.

On Sunday, Rich made his Danish pancakes, aebleskiver, as part of our Easter breakfast.  They sort of look like eggs.  I tried a new topping for mine this year, fresh squeezed lemon juice and powdered sugar - yum!

It was such a beautiful day, we decided to attend the New York City 5th Avenue Easter Parade.  Here's a mad hatter:

A  trio of sweet little ladies:

Here is my favorite - the house from the movie "Up" -

Check this one out - wow!  You can see St. Patrick's Cathedral in the background.  Unfortunately there was a mass and we couldn't fit inside to see the flowers this year.  I never will get used to seeing TV screens down the aisle in a church.

We walked over to Rockefeller Center to see the flowers there.

And the skaters in their shorts - how fun!

On the way back to the car we  saw this little soap shop called "Rain".   All their products are made in Southern Africa.  The displays were lovely.  It looked like a candy store.

See you soon with an update on the quilting on my "Mother's Garden" quilt.  I hope you are enjoying lovely weather where you are and pretty spring flowers!

  10. Oh how fun -- I haven't seen Easter "bonnets" in years. We used to make them on those little foil pie plates when we were children -- I LOVE that someone is carrying on the tradition!

  14. Love it! I am so hapoy for you, that you are obviously living in a great area, in which you can "hop on over to" so much! I hsve always loved that song, "Easter Parade". I still remember singing it in an Easter play we did in elementary school, twirling our skirts. All the hats, gloves, new patent leather shoes and frilly socks and dresses. Oh, it was my favorite! I adore Easter!
My husband loved South Africa. He went in the 70's. Visited some friends, went on a real safari after being outfitted. We have many rugs, etc to show from it. I must get out those photos when we unpack and settle. I can only imagine how heavenly this shop smelled! To pick just a few?!?! Yes, a candystore.... My favorites are always almond, rose, lemongrass, verbena.... Wel, id better stop
    Lol
No, no tv screens for me either! Ugh

  17. Great shots - love all those hats...the blue creation reminds me of a Dale Chihuly, the glass sculpture artist.

Your tiny thimble quilt is so sweet. I have a template to make one - need to get going!

By the way, I made the Orange Crunch Cake for Easter dessert...everyone really liked it. Thanks for sharing the recipe.

  21. That little quilt sure is sweet and lucky you to get it!

I hate to say this but I think some of those Easter hats were stranger than the hats worn to the royal wedding!!!

  22. That little quilt is amazing, and I can see why it called out to you. What a wonderful surprise when your friend gave it to you. Loved seeing your Easter parade pictures as we have nothing like those out here!

  23. Mary told me to stop over and see the quilt. I spent a bit of my time yesterday watching her hand quilt. I'm trying so hard to move away from my machine on occassion. Despite their encouragement it's hard to get past the beginning stages when I'm comparing my work to the stitching surrounding me every Tuesday.
