Here is liberated Stars & Crowns -
The agony of the bleeding. One of the blues ran :(
I have worked on it, but it is not coming out. I had 2 color catchers in the wash, but it folded on itself before the spin cycle.
It started with an idea and a 5 minute sketch. I had thought I'd make just little quilt. I wanted to showcase the US and GB since we both have RW&B flags. I bound it in gold which I thought looked great, which surprised me.
Here you can see how I visually worked out the 2, which I thought was the toughest shape.
Here is a close up of the liberated elements. I machine quilted it in a diamond pattern.
Making these letters was easy and fun -
I rearranged the continents from a panel that I had to fit as many as I could. My daughter called it "mom's Pangea".
Simple label -
I used YLI Kimono Silk Thread and a Microtex 70/10 needle with Hobbs 80/20 batting. I'm still making fabric balls after trimming the edges.
This gives you an idea of size. It's more like a banner. In this photo you can see the blue bleed before the 2nd washing and oxi-clean, etc.

Love it. Sorry about the bleeding problem but it's not that noticeable from this distance. If it bothers you, stick it back in with some more color catchers. Cute quilt. Love the crowns!

ReplyDeleteI find it interesting that you make quilts to commemorate things you like to remember such as the Olympics. The diamond quilting design a good choice as it represents precious stones and I am sure the Queen has plenty of those.

Wow, I think this quilt is worthy of a gold medal! And possible a 2nd one for the speed of the quilter! hee hee! Super job - I love that you made a commemorative quilt.
ReplyDeleteReally, the blue bleed is NOT a problem. If it really bothers you, try washing it again with a color catcher basted on the running area. Maybe that will work?

ReplyDeletewoohoo, really fun. if you're ever using that blue again, baste color catchers over the offending fabric - that works wonders. Seems like I'm having more problems with blue these days too. congrats on the fun quilt!
ReplyDeleteIf you have not purchased it, RETAYNE is fabulous! I ALWAYS use it. I believe in it so much so , that I don't sweat over prewashing most of the time. I just put a tiny little cap full in the washer with a bit of cold water and detergent and it's good to go. Love your quilts!
