Cute as a Button!

Happy Friday - I hope you had a great week.

On a trip to Ikea, my daughter spotted this rug for me.  How cute is this?

I have carpeting in the sewing room, but who can resist the cuteness?  It was only $39.99.  My cat, Luna, seems to like it.

I have finally started machine quilting the lavender chevron quilt.

This is a big quilt, so I set up my ironing board to help support the weight.  This one will take a while.

I'm quilting a gentle curve in either side of ESS (every stinking seam).  No marking, so there will be variations, which I actually like.

Fun For Friday - Hooray!  I have been driving a Hybrid for 6 year or so and I was rewarded this week at a rest stop.  Front row parking.

Sunday is Oscar night.  I'm a sucker for the Glitz and Glam.  I'm looking forward to Ellen Degeneres hosting again, her sense of humor is gentle and fun.

Have a great weekend!

  1. I love the fabrics in your purple quilt and like the way you are quilting it. I have a table runner made with purples and whites that I need to quilt. I might follow your example.

  2. Love that rug! Perfect for the sewing room and with that price, how can you go wrong? What a great idea to use the ironing board to support the weight of the quilt. I like the pattern you have chosen for the quilt.
I am looking forward to the awards too. This is one show I don't like to miss. This year I have watched only four of the nominated movies. Looking forward to Ellen hosting it. I love her!

  3. Very cool rug, I would have bought it too. I am getting ready to quilt an equally large quilt and not looking forward to it. I like the curves!

  4. Hi Barb
Cute, cute rug! Perfect for a sewing room. Luna has good taste. I really like the gentle curves on your lavender quilt. It is going to be lovely when does. I see you are wrestling the gator - it is a big quilt. I need to wrestle a few gators! Just need to get myself pumped and motivated for it! Have a lovely weekend. I will join you on the sofa for some hand stitching and watching of the Oscars. Love seeing all the beautiful dresses.

    Congratulations on the parking spot.

  9. That rug is perfect!! It's so bright and happy :0) I have a bigger quilt to machine quilt too - I've been procrastinating about it. I like the gentle curve you are doing - it'll work well with the chevrons.

  10. Just curious, Barb. When you set up your machine to quilt, do you have another one close by in case you want to do some piecing? Or are you so focused as to only work on the machine quilting?
    What a cute button rug!

  11. Keeping the weight of a large quilt off the edge of a table makes our quilting job so much easier. The ironing board will do that job perfectly. Smart cookie!
I'm going to remember ESS. It's too cute to forget. I may never do it (so labor intensive), but I'll definitely remember the acronym.
Have a great weekend with those pretty lavender chevrons.

  14. OOhh What a fun run!! It reminds me of that Twister game. That's a lot of quilt to quilt, it's good you're not in a rush. The curves look great! It's so cool that you have a hybrid car, and even better that you get priority parking. I wonder if parking like that will become more popular. I drive around in a 30 year old retro car, I'd have to park way, way up the back. Enjoy the Oscars, I love seeing what everyone wears, and seeing George Clooney :)

  15. Super cute rug! I can see it was a 'must buy'. I'll think of you on Sunday - I love the Oscars (and Ellen hosting), but am strangely anti-celebrity. Isn't it so fun to talk about the clothes, hair, speeches, all while eating popcorn in comfy clothes. Good luck with the purple quilt; I like the variations, too.

  20. I love the rug, it's just perfect for a sewing room. I too have driven a hybrid car for some years, and I am exempt from paying the road fund licence as a reward (hmm, do you even have that road tax there?) but I've never seen any special parking like that. Great idea.

  21. Love the cute button rug - it's a nice size too! Thank you for sharing how you manage the weight of a large quilt. I like the soft-curves quilting...ESS is too funny!!! I'm also a sucker for the Oscars. Ellen is a favorite...she is kind, funny and has a big heart.

  22. What a fantastic rug! Would love one but but can't go to IKEA as I end up spending a fortune usually leaving without having bought what I actually went for. Your lavender quilt is beautiful and am in awe that you are going to quilt something that big on a domestic. Any tips?

  23. Do like your new rug, Barb. And love "ESS" - thanks for the giggle and good luck with the quilting!

  24. Your rug reminds me of the Twister game too! I like how a few buttons are rotated. I've wrestled a few quilts through my sewing machine but try not to do it too often. Every now and then I see a photo of someone with their quilt neatly folded and flung over their shoulder while machine quilting. If I did that, my quilt would probably choke me out of self defense!

  26. I might have to make a trip to ikea to check out that rug, it's super cute! I didn't know that your kitty was a Luna too...just like ours! Your curves look great so far, don't give up yet!

  27. That rug is adorable! I love the way you're quilting your quilt -- they're a lot of work though, aren't they? Oh, to have a longarm! I thought the Oscars were rather uneventful. We need an exciting night -- like way back when the streaker hit the stage LOL!
