I have only 2 more lines of machine quilting to finish today and I can attach the binding on the lavender quilt - hooray! Here is how a finished section looks.
Over the weekend I thought I'd try a little "how to" video. I'm not sure how to get better close ups, but it gives you an idea of how I wrangle the quilt.
Here you can see that I'm only doing a 6 1/2" line before pivoting the quilt. It is so much easier to handle it one line at a time.
Well, Hanna is no Marty Scorsese and I'm no Cate Blanchett, but it was fun to try a video post. Maybe it will encourage you try a larger quilt on your home machine.
Have a great week~
Nice video with helpful instructions! Your quilting looks beautiful and you are almost done! Would you machine stitch the binding for this one? Hanna did a great job on shooting :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks wonderful and your videos are great! Do you back stitch at the beginning of every seam?
ReplyDeleteIt's so good of you and Hanna to make us a video demonstatrion!! I really like the quilting pattern you've used, the curves soften the sharp lines of the chevrons and make a beautiful secondary pattern.
ReplyDeleteIt was fun to see your demo video! Hanna's quilt is so pretty! I need to find some variegated thread for my lavender table runner. I need to go to JoAnn's soon, so I'll check there.
ReplyDeleteNicely done, I have to get braver with my machine quilting!
ReplyDeleteI don't see a bandage so I hope your finger is all healed. I am so pleased
you got a tetanus booster...good girl now write it down and get one again in 10 years :0)
Happy Sewing, enjoyed the video and watching you make it work.
perfect design for your quilt.
ReplyDeleteI would never have thought to try the curved stitching with regular (or walking?) foot. It looks really good!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great Barb, and you make it look so easy.
ReplyDeleteI will give it a try when i am back home, am in Holland for family visit
ReplyDeleteExcellent work Barb! I love the way you're quilting Hanna's quilt -- it looks great!
ReplyDeleteGreat tips. I like the part about focus on just what you are quilting and not worry about the rest of it.
ReplyDeleteI think you 2 have a future in films!
Fun joint project. Congrats, I bet by the time your read this, the quilt, will be bound.
ReplyDeleteHi Barb! I loved hearing your voice!! I was surprised to see you using your walking foot and not an open toe free motion. More control?

Great video. I learned a lot. Can't wait to see the finished quilt. Hugs.
ReplyDeleteThe videos are wonderful! I love hearing your cute accent! You did a wonderful job of showing how to control the quilt and taking it one small step at a time. That's pretty much exactly what I do too, but it's fun to see someone explain it so well. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt looks great! I love the pattern made by the curves. Great videos. Your message about "only 6 inches at a time" is really helpful. What fun to hear your voice!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tutorial! The quilting looks amazing. You are really making that quilt a wow!
ReplyDeleteYou make it look so easy!
ReplyDeleteGreat videos Barb! Your curved lines with the walking foot turn out beautifully. I am going to consider this for the top I have basted and have been procrastinating starting... :0)
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your video and the great quilting mantra of "only six inches at a time". We should all remember that. Then we would be so surprised how much we could accomplish. I'm sure the quilt is done by now.
ReplyDeleteGreat technique--I'm quilting this week, too, and definitely need to get me a light like you have. That's terrific.

Thanks for the videos. It's so helpful to see how to scrunch the big quilt up. I'm looking forward to getting back into the sewing groove.
