What's on my wall~
I finished this string quilt with a 1 inch hanging diamonds design. I used olive thread.
Tip: after using a seam ripper, use a lint roller to roll away those pesky threads.
Tip: When "fussy sewing" use the fabric to help you sew accurately. I can easily see where I have to stitch on the wrong side.
On the 4-patch, I machine quilted from the back to create an Apple Core quilting pattern. I made a dot to guide my serpentine stitching. I quickly realized I only nee 1line each way to make the design - duh.
I've joined the sew along with Cecile' of Patchwork Inspirations and Bea' of Needle in a Haystack. We are to make 2 log cabin blocks a week. I've started a new modern quilt for my boy, Andrew.
Yay- we finally got a nice snowstorm last week. The woods around my home looked magical. We celebrated with pancakes :)Sad News in the Quilt World
Sue Garman passed away on January 8th. I never met Sue but I have admired her for many years and always enjoyed her blog. She posted on January 1st and sounded so positive. This is my favorite Sue Garman Pattern; Ladies of the Sea.
Have a great day - I'm going to be back on Friday with the "Ups and Downs" of quilting and putting yourself out there....
xo
Lovely littles -- looking forward to your Friday post.
ReplyDeleteI never met Sue is person but I did some swaps with her in the Prodigy days. A talented and kind quilter.
ReplyDeleteThe little string quilt caught my eye. Like it a lot. A nice way to showcase the conversation prints.
ReplyDeleteI quilted apple cores freehand one time. It was on a water color quilt so made of all little squares. I used the block corners to aim for. Turned out okay.
I love all your little projects, they make me smile. That's a good thing. I too was saddened to hear about Sue. Although I never met her I felt I knew her through her work. She will be greatly missed. Hugs
ReplyDeleteSo sad to hear about Sue Garman. She always sounded so cheerful and full of hope in all her posts. Love your apple cores!
ReplyDeleteI always love seeing what's on your design wall. The quilting is fun!
ReplyDeleteSo sad about Sue.
You are off to a great start in the new year! Lovely little creations that make me smile.
ReplyDeleteI'd never met Sue, either, but I certainly admired her work. She did sound very positive and hopeful in her last post. So sorry to hear the news that she has passed.
Her last post sounded so positive. What a loss. Such sad news to hear. Huge loss for her family and the quilting community. Like another commented that she had never met Sue, the same is with me, I've never met most of you, but I feel like through your blog Barb and many others that I am one part of a huge family. Best to you Barb and all the others that enrich my life through quilting.

You have a nice start to the new year on your design wall. Thanks for posting about Sue...she seemed better lately, so it was a shock to lose her so soon...so sad.
ReplyDeleteYou work like a do....several creations at one time! LOL! We celebrated our snow days with cozy food too. I checked out Sue's blog and it made me sad to read about her goal of Jan. 15th....and now her blog is just left. Makes me reflect on the legacy of our quilts....the legacy of our work and friendships. Happy Wednesday Barb.
ReplyDeleteYou have been a busy little bee! I was sorry to hear that Sue passed away, her work was outstanding!
ReplyDeleteOnly January 11 and you've already made more quilts than I did in 6 months! However, I did read 81 books in 2016--guess you know what I was doing!!! You've brought me back to sewing reality and I've picked some projects and am ready to go!
ReplyDeleteStay tuned to be dazzled.
Norma
You should get a blue ribbon for reading so many books!!
DeleteGreat tips, beautiful log cabin blocks but sad news for this starting year :(
ReplyDeleteThe tips are great and clever ! Thank you Barb !
ReplyDeleteYou began this new year with lots of little projects and they are so nice as usual...
So sad for Sue... I was very surprised to learn she passed away...
xoxo
Looks like you're having a great time in your sewing room -- as it should be in the winter cold! Very sad news indeed about Sue Garman -- I was reading about her yesterday -- it's been a very sad year for her family. ;-(
ReplyDeleteWonderful little quilts, Barb! Thanks for the tips, too. I need to get a new lint roller :) Your winter woods are so beautiful! Very sad news about Sue Garman. She was an extraordinary quilter who will be missed by many.
ReplyDeleteSqueal! THose little quilts are delightful! I love your backings, always fun! I am dreadfully sad about Sue. I never met her in person either but she often answered my comments to her Blog. As sick as she was just a few weeks ago, she took the time to send me a pattern of a quilt that her daughter had made. I had told her how much I liked it and poof, it was in my mailbox! THAT was the kind of person she was. Thanks for thinking of her today.
ReplyDeleteWhat cute projects! It's fun to make small things as they are so fast. I have a Christmas wall hanging in mind to make for next year, so I plan to get it started soon. Plus finish some other projects and start new ones!
ReplyDeleteYour "quick" start doll quilts are super cute. Those sweet quilts may be small, but they still take a lot of time. Thanks for your great tips. I never thought of the lint brush.
ReplyDeleteWonderful little quilts Barb, you are having a very productive start to the new year!
ReplyDeleteI too was sad to hear about the loss of Sue Garman. I've made a few blocks from Sarah's Revival, one of my favorite patterns of hers. She will be missed.
Thank you - I don't have your email. Sue has left a wonderful legacy of beautiful work
DeleteAlso feeling very sad about the death of Sue Garman... such an inspiring woman!
ReplyDeleteSue Garman's appliqués are always such an inspiration. She will be missed.
ReplyDeleteI've started some little quilts too. I'll post them when I get a chance. I'm thinking if I start my LQ now I'll have plenty for the Holidays 2017. :-)
