What's Up Buttercup?

Hope you're having a great summer!  Here's my Summer Spread as of this morning.
here are some of my favorite blocks.
in this one I have some pre-pieced logs
I will surround the top with 11" fabric blocks.  I'll be using larger scale and pieces with a little more color.   This is going to be scrap-tastic....I hope.
Isn't this a wonderful piece of fabric?  I just love it.  It will probably look better when it's pressed.
I'm determined to finish it before the end of August.  One great thing is when the top it done you are close to finishing as there is not batting and no quilting.

I made a little video yesterday to kick off a 2-day sew-a-thon.
Yay - My husband and son safely raced from Chicago to Mackinac Island.  They were crewing aboard Slap Shot II and they raced with 2 of my husbands' childhood buddies.
I tracked the race and reported heavily on Face Book.
they had a wild race - very stormy, wet and windy.
My husband is now a member of "The Old Goat" club which means he has finished 25 Chicago-Mackinac Races!  He's kind of a big deal, especially to me.
In other news: chocolate cupcakes.
the cactus papers and picks are from TJ Maxx.
TJ Maxx has really great cards, gift wrap and stationery.  Here are some cute notes that I picked up for under $10.  Almost too cute to use.
Well this girl will be happy to see the boys come home tonight, but we have enjoyed our sleep overs.
What are you up to this summer?
Fun I hope
xo

  1. congrats to your hubby and son on the race that really sounds like fun. It sure is cold up there on the water. Love the quilt and those cupcake papers. I am all up to finishing up some quilts that were close to a finish and was able to blog about some of those finishes today - so glad to have a couple done!

  2. That race and tracking looks very complex. Quite an achievement. Quilt is looking great, and two days to nothing but sew- what a treat. I'll have to check TJMaxx- I never think about the party/paper area there. Look forward to seeing your spread with the outer blocks.

  5. Oh that spread is developing nicely!! Congrats to the sailors. We haven't raced for years. It is a lot of work, but rewarding and they deserve kudos! Funny, I just spotted the state flower fabric two days ago and ordered a piece!

  6. Thanks for sharing the video. Now I feel like I know you!
Love your pretty summer spread. I'm finishing up a low volume quilt - enjoyed limiting the fabric to low volume more than I thought I would.
    Steamy here in Virginia, too!

  7. You have been humming right along on your summer spread. I like the idea of the outer blocks having just a little more color.
Sounds like you have made good use of your solo time (well, almost solo).
I think your TJMaxx may be bigger than ours. I look for note cards there whenever I am in, but usually don't find anything that cute. :)

  8. Wow I didn't realize the coverlet doesn't need quilting. I could use a coverlet as our Texas summer has been very hot. We had to endure 111 F last week. Sure glad it wasn't the 121 I saw out in the south west.

  9. Congratulations to the seaworthy crew! What an awesome accomplishment to have completed the race 25 times. You've included some great shirtings in your blocks and I like how you've pieced some of the logs. Scrappy for sure.

  13. What an amazing accomplishment to have participated in that boat race, and so many years!! Looks like a great experience for both your husband and your son!!
Loving your summer spread. And I have to say that your collection of low-volume lights is pretty awesome. I love the concept of the pre-pieced logs... HEHEHE...

  15. You have some really interesting neutrals (low volume style). I so wanted to join with you in making the log cabin blocks but quickly decided I already had too many projects in the works and needing attention. I am enjoying seeing what others are doing with the log cabin blocks.

  18. Barb, I have followed you for years~~~ So fun to read your posts. Since I have been a follower, I thought it grand fun to take a class from you. I may have missed your calendar of classes. If so, I apologize. If no, it would be helpful to have a calendar tab on your blog to see where you are teaching. Thanks....darlynnn

  19. LOVE the conversation prints (especially the baseball ones!) in your first favorite block! It's so hard to find that style of print now - not many of them being made. The state flower prints is wonderful, too! Great story about your hubby completing 25 (!) Chicago-Mackinac races - congrats to him on being an Old Goat!

  20. Is that little print a gerber baby? DaRLING!
Congrats to the racers! That must be rather nail-biting when the weather is crappy.

  21. I used to have some of the baby print and loved it! Is the state flower fabric going in the border? What a great thing for father/son to do together!!
