Sweet Dreams!

My Summer Spread is a top - Sweet Dreams 99" x 99"
Here are my guys trying to hold it.  These are guys who can sail a boat 333 miles in horrible conditions, but complain about holding a quilt up.  ha ha  Bless their hearts.
The tiniest toad hopped into the shoot.
For the plain blocks I arranged them to coincide with me and Mr. Funs' interests or life experiences.
Some of the bottom row which were a mix.
My side.  It was fun to have a plan for which to include.
I also liked that it added some color to the outside border.
I used 11 different toiles' for the top row.  Believe it or not I did arrange them in a color order.
I think Mr. Starbuck and Coco are really going to miss this project.
They spent a lot of time helping me in the sewing room.
I am in the process of piecing the backing for this quilt, then I plan to tie it and machine bind it.

My Goal:  to have it done this time next week....

If you are in the Sewing Along - happy stitching!  Post your progress on FB or IG.
Happy August Everyone

  5. So sweet and summery, though when I make one I'll have to add a layer of lightweight batting, since I still sleep under a quilt most nights even in summer! Because by the time daybreak rolls around our temperatures are often down in the 50s or even high 40s - in July!

  11. What a great summer spread! Looks soft and inviting, without looking heavy and warm.
Your guys are too funny. You'd think you were asking them to pump iron. :)
Mr. Toad just needed a closer look. Maybe applying for job as quilt inspector.

  12. Congrats on the finish! I especially like your use of themed fabrics reflecting your interests. My blocks are done; now to sew them together and figure out a border. I'm trying mightily to use only fabrics in my stash, so we'll see how that turns out. Thanks for the inspiration.

  14. LOVE this quilt top! What a fabulous border idea. I have tons of neutral strings, this would be a great way to use them up.
I know, what is so hard about holding up a quilt? I get so many groans, and “ Are you done yet.”, when I ask for help taking photo.

  20. You’ll be using your summer spread before the summer is over - that was a speedy project. The toiles on the edge are so interesting - impressive that you could personalize that part for you and your husband. The toad is so cool - I think I can say with certainty that there has never been a toad on one of my quilts! I hope you have many sweet dreams sleeping under your coverlet :0)

  21. Clearly this turned out so well because of the expertise of those assistants of yours! LOL They are so cute, I'm sure the moral support was invaluable. I do love the story this quilt tells through the fabrics, that is so fun. It's going to be gorgeous once it's on the bed. Will we get to see it?
And I had to laugh at the men holding quilts comments. My boys run marathons and act like holding a quilt is going to kill them on the spot. They're all the same! hahaha

Very cool your husband getting his official "old goat" title too! Good for him, I hope he gets many more years of enjoying what he loves. Happy Sewing!

  29. I laughed out loud at your "men holding quilt" comment. Funny how big macho men can have such a problem holding a little quilt top! It is fabulous. I especially like the outside border and the story it tells. Happy to hear you are tying it. That is what they did on so many early Maine quilts and I think it is a shame that they don't allow them into shows. More history lost! Good job!!

  30. I am a huge fan of your summer spread Barb! I just wish I had the time to make one......as you know, I was very vocal about the sew along thing, and then life happened. I will get to it, and will use yours as my inspiration! Your guys holding the top is pretty hilarious! I figured you had them trained by now? LOL
