My Curves Quilt Along piece is finished - yay!
I went out on our balcony and took some early morning photos as you can see by my attire :)
I machine quilted it with an olive thread wich worked well over the solids.
I quilted in ditch first then I subdivided the space between the circles and I really like how it turned out.
I made this runner specifically for our TV console. We have a big black TV and black soundbar on a black cabinet. I think it breaks it up nicely.
I am preparing more samples for a workshop I'm teaching of my Pineapple Log Cabin. Nutmeg is a good supervisor, but I keep telling her - TOO CLOSE when she is on the ironing board. My son, Andrew, is a new RN at Yale Hospital and is working nights, 7p-7:30a ouch. Here he is after a back to back weekend night shifts having a Guinness at 9am and about to have Irish Stew before hitting the sack.I donated blood last week. I'm lucky that it is easy for me to give and I like the snacks.
I've donated a gallon! An added benefit is my blood is tested for covid-19 antibodies (which will show if I've had asymptomatic covid) and I'm negative for the third time.
I'll leave you with these bluebirds at our feeder. They come everyday and are a joy to see. The photo was zoomed through the kitchen window so not the best.
Stay Safe and vigilant
vaccines are on their way and life we become more normal soon!
xoxo
Beautiful console runner--I love the colors you chose...and such neat quilting!
ReplyDeleteCommendations to your son for his wonderful work...we so appreciate our healthcare workers...;)))
Take care--lovely bluebirds...hugs, Julierose
P.S. I also commend Andrew for choosing ALL the food groups hahaha..good job!!
ReplyDeleteBluebirds -- how wonderful! Your postreminds me of one of my favorite vintage UFOs. I bought it at an antiques store -- stamped-on-linen embroidery. Embroidery done but the piece was never hemmed. The serial # is stamped on the edge with the identifier, "Radio Scarf." Because if you can have a scarf for your dresser, you can have a scarf to put on top of your floor-model radio.......Your runner is the 21st century version of that! (P.S. I am keeping the radio scarf just as it is, of course.)
ReplyDeleteCheery Test Pattern :-) I made one for our TV console as well but all in variations of black with bits of brown and dark red. Used it before washing and was surprised how much it shrunk :-0 but it still works :-)
ReplyDeleteI got my first "jab" dose on Monday which was pretty exciting and weird all at the same time. It will be weeks before the second dose is available but I'm glad to be started. Our county is working out the glitches with making appointments but the actual vaccination sites are organized well and serve 700 to 1000 in a day. Pretty impressive! I was reminded of when I got the polio sugar vaccine when I was a kid.
Isn't Nutmeg a sweet sewing partner. Mine likes to get too close to the iron as well. I splurged on a mini/travel Oliso that sits face down on a silicone trivet. This has worked out well....except for the part that I haven't been sewing much in a long while. I've been learning to cook, bake and clean....thought I might get that in before my 7th decade. HA!
Beautiful runner and it is perfect for your T.V. console.
ReplyDeleteOh your quilt is perfect under the TV !! Thank you for your participation Barb !!
ReplyDeleteThe birds are fabulous !! We don't have that kind of birds in France, so thank you for sharing !
Andrew is very brave and you too for your gallon of blood !! WOW...
Huge hugs !!
Beautiful post. Love the TV runner finish and of course the blue birds. I never get tired of nature.. congratulations to your son. I know you are a proud Mama!!!
ReplyDeleteYour runner turned out very nice! I have one of snowman beneath my tv/sound bar right now. I got my third negative covid antibody results too. I sort of wish I had the antibodies and never knew I was sick. Your son is so cute! That's a long shift!!
ReplyDeleteI love your test pattern runner, especially those wonderful Amish shades. Perfect runner for your TV cabinet. Wow, those bluebirds are a beautiful sight. Kudos to your son, and to you for your blood donations!
ReplyDeleteNot only is it a great quilt, but the name fits it perfectly! Good for you for giving blood! Hurray for Andrew and Guinness for breakfast! Your bluebirds are a breath of fresh air! So beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI love your runner - it looks perfect for that spot. My daughter is a nurse and is also working the 7PM to 7 AM shift in her hospital - not easy, especially with a 2 year old at home! She's lucky her husband is working from home and that she has 2 teenagers that can help too. Kudos to all our health care providers! Those birds are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour runner is great and I love how your machine quilting really adds to the design. Very modern and sharp but also so warm. You have to be so proud of your son, a new nurse in this difficult time! That's wonderful that you donate blood! Beautiful blue birds!
ReplyDeleteThe colors of your Test Pattern runner are so saturated and yummy. It's just so visually appealing with the circles. I never would have thought of an olive green for the quilting thread, but it's wonderful. Love seeing the bluebirds. They're so pretty. Thank you to both you and Andrew for helping those in need.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a great runner and the way you quilted it was the perfect finishing touch. You are so lucky to have those beautiful bluebirds at your feeder :) You and Andrew are to be commended for all you do to help others. Would love to know more about your Pineapple Log Cabin workshop. Will it be virtual??
ReplyDeleteTest pattern! Test pattern? Do you remember way back when, when at 11 pm the tv station would go off the air till...?... in the morning? Then if you turned to set on too soon there was a Test Pattern? A silhouette of an Indian Chief? Now THAT would be an interesting Test Pattern! giggle!
ReplyDeleteFantastic pop of color!!
ReplyDeleteTest pattern looks fantastic on your TV console. The quilting is wonderful and so is the backing. Your blood has been a blessing to others. May your son enjoy a long and rewarding career!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun runner! Great colors! Nurses are the best, they took such good care of me when I had my car accident. I wrote down each of their names and sent a thank you note to the hospital for their good care of me. Two of them were men and after my initial hesitance I ended up thinking they were the best ever. I have not donated blood in a while, #cuzcovid. I will get back to it soon, such a good thing to do. I just saw some bluebirds the other day and it made me so happy!
ReplyDeleteTest Pattern is fun all around ;-) - and the backing fabric is great, as always!
ReplyDeleteWay to go Andrew! I worked the night shift when I was a new graduate, so I can definitely relate. Hoping to see some bluebirds soon at our camp - they always make me smile!
What a cool table runner! I love how bright and happy it is. Will probably bring a smile to your face every time you look at it.:)
ReplyDeletePerfect runner for under the TV! Those circles are so much fun! I will need to start getting some strips cut for the workshop. Is Nutmeg going to be assisting you when you are teaching? I will be glad when everyone is vaccinated and we can get back to “normal”.
ReplyDeleteYour runner is beautiful, and I love the quilting lines, very pretty. Lovely cat, and birds!
ReplyDeleteGreat, vivid color scheme and the quilting really sets it of nicely! take care, cw
ReplyDeleteI love the table runner! Table runners are so much fun. I always have one on the coffee table. I have a crocheted one on our TV stand. My son is an RN also and has been working 4 to 5 nights for a while due to Covid. He is taking a vacation now with his family - which he needed very badly. I'm going to send your blog to the president of my quilt guild as a possible Zoom speaker. I'm also sending Lori of Humble Quilts. We really need to have some programs or I'm afraid the guild will go by the way side. Any suggestions will help. I know you have had contact with a number of guilds.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for donating blood! Those of us who randomly need some from time to time are MOST thankful! XOXO
ReplyDeleteOh and the quilt is darling too of course.
