A Golden Oldie

Today I'm sharing a quilt I made in 1994 for my Husband, Rich.

The great thing about Amish style quilts is they never go out of style.

I just did simple black machine cross hatch quilting.

The back was really fun to make.

I created a weird city scape by raw edge appliquéing this fabric and adding a red moon.

It's berry time and on Sunday I made a mixed berry pie - the recipe is here.  I used mixed berries, and I substituted half of the sugar for Splenda.

It has lemon zest and a little lemon juice -

Yes, that is store bought pie crust.  Don't judge me.  People love my crust.  Is that a Five Guys soda cup?   Don't judge me.

I got fancy and did a little woven lattice top.

A little egg wash and it's ready for the oven.

Turned out great, juicy and sweet.  This is a little battery operated lightening bug jar.  They actually glow.  Its fun and I don't have to feel bad for the bugs.

There will be a break in the Fun For Friday this week.
I'll be in Vermont at the Quilt Show.  My Mother's Garden quilt will be on display.  If you see me around the show - say hello!

Have a great week, hope you are enjoying the summer!

Fun For Friday - 1st Class Mail - Basket Challenge

Happy HOT Friday from NJ!

I received this fun Birthday package from Diane.  A beautiful book, wonderful patriotic blue toile' fabric and a post card hand made by Libby - Thank you so much Diane!

The book is lovely and has so many wonderful traditional quilts.  The toile' I will use for something special and here is the back of the post card - too cute!

I won last month's drawing from Libby.  It reminded me of the ad "if is says Libby, Libby, Libby on the Label, Label, Label I will love it, love it, love it on my sewing table, table, table...."

What a pretty little bundle!

A special kerchief for my favorite puppy - and other unexpected surprises along with her incredible photo note cards.  Thank you so much, Libby!

Look at this pretty girl.

As promised; here are the basket challenge quilts.  I've grouped them by month - enjoy!

here is the challenge fabric -

My friend, Susan H., won viewers choice!

What a great group of talent!  It is so fun to see how everyone interpreted the month and basket theme.

Have a Wonderful Weekend!!

Guild Luncheon

Saturday, June 9th, was the year end luncheon of the Brownstone Quilters, which included the Basket Challenge Quilt reveal.

Here is mine "Harvest Baskets"

The theme was "Basket" and had to include the challenge fabric, which I used on the handles and the binding. It also had represent a month.  I had September, so I made 9 baskets with harvest prints and autumn colors.

I used the liberated basket technique from Gwen's recent workshop.

I really liked the way the challenge fabric worked with these  two prints-

I used this beautiful bird and floral print for the backing and the used challenge fabric around the label.

For lunch I brought a layered Mexican salad.

As part of the Hostess committee I volunteered to make the centerpieces.  Norma and I found these cute tin "baskets" at Joanne Fabrics and I filled them with gerbera daisies.

Happy Monday - I'll see you soon with the other 31 challenge quilts.
