Snow Flower and the Secret Fan - 63" x 62"
(it's a rainy day here, so the colors are a little funny)
I am especially happy with how my partial fans look on the border. It is a good reminder that you can use any portion of a stencil.
I still need to stitch my little sparrow above my label.

Here you can see the texture of the quilting.
This quilt gave me all sorts of problems. After binding, washing and blocking I found I had missed several fan arcs - grrrrrrr.
In order to quilt it properly I had to un-stitch the binding on the back and the front. I used a single binding.I held it off to the side while I started and stopped the quilting stitching.
When finished I just pinned and re-stitched to the front and hand stitched (again) to the back.
Here are 2 dresses that I'm sending to Columbia with Lori.
I made several little goodie bags with "girly stuff".I will be kicking off my lecture/teaching year with a visit to the Greater Ann Arbor Quilt Guild Sept. 15-17th. Find info on their Facebook page here or their Website here. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone!
xo
After all the difficulties your quilt turned out beautifully. I love the border quilting!! It has wavy and graceful movement. Wish I could catch your lecture in Ann Arbor. The dresses for Columbia are so happy and fun :0)
ReplyDeleteJust love the OBW! I could make them all day.
ReplyDelete"Snow Flower and the Secret Fan" is a real stunner! Again, I would love for you to come decorate The Quilt Cave for me, as I find your design aesthetic mega pleasing! Thanks for keeping it real with us readers as you explained what you had to fix and how you did it. I think it is so important for popular quilters like yourself to be honest and humble about their work. How I wish I lived in the Greater Ann Arbor area! LOL
ReplyDeleteMe parece un quilt realmente precioso, muy original y de difícil elección de telas y colores. ¡Me ha dejado asombrada!
ReplyDeleteUn saludo.
It is stunning! I love everything about it, especially the name and the super model in the layout! I can't believe you unstitched the binding to fix the quilting, but it does look great. Super job!
ReplyDeleteWonderful quilt, love the Tag on the back.
ReplyDeleteClever title! Love the quilt. You have a great sense of color. I'm always amazed at how these one block wonder quilts turn out. Your quilting is fabulous. Hope you feel the extra challenges were worth it.
ReplyDeleteI like the name and the addition of the border on the left side. Your use of prints is always so clever! I would have been definitely too lazy to undo the binding for those lines. :)
ReplyDeleteAwesome finish! I love the blue highlights in the fabric, they make the quilt design pop.
ReplyDeleteExcellent job! Your final choice for the quilting design was perfect. I know you struggled with what to quilt (who doesn't, right?).
ReplyDeleteI am especially drooling over the fan design in the border. Never would have thought of that myself, but love it!
Isn't it maddening to discover areas you missed. But you recovered nicely.
Looks great! The backing fabrics are perfect. Love the partial fans; that may be a good solution to a quilting dilemma I currently have - thanks!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finish on Snowflower quilt; I love the Japanese toile on the back, too. You've really worked hard on this one and it paid off...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! I know it was a pain to fix but you wouldn't have stopped knowing the missing stitching was needed! Love your label.
ReplyDeleteOoh, too bad you had to take off the binding and add more stitching! That kind of error is always so frustrating, but still, what a beautiful finish! Your quilt is very you in style, color and 'feel'. Congrats on a great addition to your quilt collection!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is stunning, Barb.
ReplyDeleteNorma
Oh my gosh you had to take off the binding!!!!! I am crying for you! What a great selection of fabrics for the pattern. Your baptist fans look perfect!
ReplyDeleteBarb it is beautiful. Hey I'm not too far from Ann Arbor. I will try and make it. Hugs
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful. Its amazing how one fabric can be cut to create such a variety of designs. Have fun in A2. That's my old neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteI am not an Oriental fabric person but your quilt could make me one. I told you previously that I like the strip of the fabric down the left edge. It shows what the fabric design was like before cutting it up and makes it different than any other quilt I have seen done in this method.
ReplyDeleteAfter many and many efforts, you realized a wonderful quilt ! The colors sparkle in your room... Congratulations for this finish ! And thank you for the inspiration !
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is absolutely beautiful! Love your quilting choices. Where did you ever find that Asian toile?? It's a great fabric. So glad Coco joined in for the photo shoot :) Your little dresses and goodie bags are so cute. I hope to make a dress or two, too!
ReplyDeleteI love how your quilt turned out. Beautiful. Sorry you had issues at the end with the quilting but glad you were able to remedy them fairly easily. Coco is the sweetest helper! Love how she was modeling your quilt for you!
ReplyDeleteWow! Lovely. Nice work with the quilting!! Aargh! With having to remove the binding and quilt, but at least it is done. Its a real beauty!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the dresses, it means so much to the girls who receive them.
Such a beautiful quilt with such amazing precision. It appears that you stitched each triangle inside the perimeter. That's a lot of triangles!!! But so worth the effort. I bow to your talent!! Wish I could make it down to AA. Have fun and be sure to eat at Zingerman's deli.
ReplyDeleteWonderful finish, Barb!! Your focus fabric really produced a lot of great variations. A trip to Michigan in September sounds wonderful - have a great time!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea to use fans in the border! I am using your fan template now to quilt the Flags of the American Revolution quilt. I didn't use the fan in the center eagle block though. I had to quit for a while because my machine was giving me problems, so it's in the shop. Hope I get it back soon.
ReplyDeleteIt is stunning ! And what pretty little dresses. I think I would have screamed first before starting to unstitch and re-do the quilting and binding there :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a Gorgeous finish to this fabulous quilt!
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful time in Ann Arbor.
I am very impressed by this dramatic and beautiful quilt, congratulations!
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful! Looks awesome hanging!!
ReplyDeleteThis is such a beautiful quilt. I love that Coco helped out with the photos. Isn't it amazing after making zillions of quilts you can miss lines of quilting. It was worth taking the time to quilt this beautiful quilt properly. I've just finished a quilt, binding and all and noticed I didn't quilt a row. I'm just pretending I haven't seen it...
