Finishing the Mac Race

My July Modern Mini - Finishing the Mac
Yes, that is my nightgown, lol!  It has been a bit since I've done a PJ early morning photo.

I tried to quilt "wind" across the surface with light blue and pink silk threads.
I love the way silk looks as it glides over different colored fabric.
I haven't sewn down the binding yet, it is glued in place.  The best technique I've ever used.  Here is the backing fabrics.  I had to use a light one for the top so it wouldn't shadow the front.
I give myself a A- on matching the binding.  It may get better after it is stitched and pressed.
Here is a look my process for this quilt
I spray basted it just went for it.
Remember Pasta Salad?  Well, it is as good as you remembered.  I hadn't made it in forever.  You can add just about anything, I added fresh herbs from my garden and it is such a nice side dish for a summer supper.
What can I say?  We're still smitten with Nutmeg.  She's a monster and tears around the house, but she is also sweet and soft.
Happy Summer! and Smooth Sailing in August.

Wow, wow, wow! I love everything about this mini, including the fact that it commemorates the race and keeps it forever in their minds! I will link it up today when I post mine. And, if you hadn't told us it was your nightie, we would never have known!

Hee! I love your quilt...and your jammie shot! What that means to me is that it was Ok that I was out changing the sprinkler placement in my nightie! Thank you for the explanation of your method. That is helpful!

Just lovely mini to remember the race...what glue do you use that won't yuck up your needle? Lovely windy quilting...beautiful job on this--my favorite so far of all your minis...hugs, Julierose

I recognize that lighthouse! That is some sailboat race. I'm glad your family finished safely. Nice clean modern-look to the wall hanging. Why, I thought you were wearing a nice cool summer dress.

I love seeing your modern minis each month! If you hadn't told us nobody would have known you were in your pj's. It's ok, out here in the middle of nowhere I can wear my nightshirt out in the garden and nobody knows or cares. Country living is the best!!

Your minis are so inspiring, Barb, and your kitten is very cute!

Love this mini especially since I know that lighthouse and race. Many thanks for the process shots. I'd give the binding an A+. Question, did you start and stop, changing your quilting thread colors, where the blue meets the pink?

"Finishing the Mac" is fabulous! It's a great remembrance of all the races "your guys" have been in. Your quilting does look like the winds across the lake and you do get an A+ for matching the binding so cleverly. Look how big Nutmeg is getting.

What a perfect July mini! I just love the design and the quilted "wind" looks fantastic! Really nice job on the binding, too :) I always enjoy seeing pics of Nutmeg--and Coco.

What a great quilt, and the "wind" quilting really makes it come alive! (I'd love to know more about your binding technique, especially the gluing part.)

You make the best modern minis! Love this one, and the quilting is so perfect. Glue for binding - I haven't tried this. Great idea.

This little quilt is wonderful! I do think the quilting looks like wind. Such a perfect quilt for you to work on while your guys were sailing!
