is what we say at our house when someone asks "what are you up to?"
This is my steampunk block project. It is one of my 2021 intentions. It is a fun challenge to pick fabrics for these blocks.
Because the theme of this quilt will be Chernobyl I used fabrics that represent science, life, data and death.
It is a very messy process for sure! 
It was fun see a version of my quarantini quilt in the Mid-Atlantic quilt show. Thanks Bonnie for the inspiration credit. Your quilt turned out great.
I took several photos of this beauty and he let me come quite close.
I'm off today to get my first dose of the covid vaccine. I hope we can control this virus soon so we can get back to our lives safely.
In another exhibit I found this quilt, which was created in my Hex Vex Zoom Workshop. I really love this in B&W.
I enjoy looking for hawks when the trees are bare. They are so much easier to see. I spied this one on a neighborhood walk with Coco.

ReplyDeleteglad you can get your vaccine - I hope more continue to do so - I get my second on April 2nd and will be so glad to do so. love your quilt I made one like that a couple years ago but I found the old pattern (1930's)from the Kansas City Star with the original name of "airship propeller"

Have you written about why you chose this event as inspiration? I love your photos of the hawk. Good luck with your vaccination. I have just had my second Moderna shot, and I am so relieved!

I'm also interested in your original decision for the Chernobyl theme for your steampunk quilt. I may just have to add that pattern to my list of someday quilts. Ouur local hospital recently received a large amount of the Johnson vaccine and now nearly all of our quilt ministry members have received their vaccine, which is a great relief to many of them. Many hawks in our neck of the woods and occasional spotting of the bald eagles who nest along the river close to town.

ReplyDeleteIts all about your stash! Makes your quilts sing. You need to share your secret to build a stash that can be utilized like you use yours. We've had both of our vaccine doses. No complaints. We don't really feel any different, we still mask up and social distance but it is a relief. Once the leaves are back on the trees it will be harder to spot the hawks. We love counting them in the trees on roadtrips. The other day here in Florida I spotted a Bald Eagle soaring above Lowes. It was a remarkable site, had never seen one before.

Love those Steampunk blocks!! I was curious so I looked it up and was so surprised to read that Chernobyl was in 1986! I knew it was April because it was the day before Mollie's birthday but I thought she was older than 4 when it happened. Amazing! I love you hawk. I saw our (well, not mine really) Peregrine Falcon on Tuesday flying with an immature eagle. It gives me chills when I watch them. Gordon is always yelling at me to calm down when I shout "hawk" while riding along the highway. See what I have to put up with - wink!

ReplyDeleteThe Chernobyl Steam Punk blocks are fabulous! Such interesting fabrics. We often see hawks along the side of the road here, but have a large flock of turkey vultures that hang out in our neighbourhood. They came back this week after the winter so spring must be here.

ReplyDeleteI first saw the steam punk quilt at my LQS and I do love it, but do not want to make it. Your blocks are so interesting!! I had my vaccine shot 2 weeks ago and didn't have any problem at all with it. Hope the next one is the same. One morning about 4:30 I was sitting and reading and heard an owl hooting. And it kept it up for a long time every few minutes! I sure wish I could have seen it!
ReplyDeleteI had to look up steampunk on the internet, as I had not heard the word before. The block does look like a machine propeller and I guess that goes with the steampunk theme. I feel so out of it and behind the times, but I have heard "stuff and things" (as a reply to my questions to my kids about why they were so quiet in their rooms.)
