Vermont Quilt Festival 2012 - Finale

Thank you Pat!  She sent me this beautiful pincushion (pattern from Primitive Quilts magazine) and local Wisconsin maple syrup.  What a sweet surprise!  The pincushion is so beautifully made and I love the fabric.  My son said it was the best syrup he has ever tasted; I agree.

Here is my last post from the Quilt Festival.  If you haven't had enough, my friends have posted photos too;  Sue, Lori, Regan.  My camera ran out of batteries, so they have some different photos.

On Friday evening we went to Montpellier for dinner and looks what I saw.  I church steeple with quilting motifs!

The capitol building and garden was beautiful in the evening light.  Here are me, Sue, Lori and Jill.

Lori and I were able to have a joint Jubilee 50th Birthday celebration.  It was wonderful.

Fun For Friday - Shelburne Museum

Last Friday we spent the day at the Shelburne Museum.  I love to visit this outdoor museum of historic buildings and the collections are incredible.

First some quilts from their permanent collection -

this is one of my favorite quits of all time -

The beautiful wool rugs of Patty Yoder.  She uses her sheep as inspiration and material, clever gal.

This one is my favorite. I just love the smug expression.

This is the hat box room.  I love them, they remind me of toile' wallpaper.

For my friend, Pat, miniature rooms and doll houses from their extensive collection.

Lastly, I'm slightly obsessed with the Carved Circus exhibits.  This one is a 3 ring circus that a couple made for their 4 children.

It has over 35,000 pieces.  I think it is the people in the crowd that really impress me.  (crazy)

And this is a carved circus parade that took over 25 years to make with several assistants.  In real life it would be over 2 miles long.  The scale is 1 inch to 1 foot.

When I feel tired of appliquéing leaves, or making berries, I intend to think of these exhibits.  I mean seriously, it's a little crazy, isn't it?

Report From the Front (VQF) Part 1

Happy (rainy) Fourth of July from New Jersey!

I'm late in reporting news from the Vermont Quilt Festival because Hanna had 2 wisdom teeth pulled on Monday, but she is doing well and looking like a cute chipmunk.

On With The Show!

To my utter Delight - Christine Wickert won Best in Show for her lovely silk quilt.  I first shared this quilt in this post.

She also received Best Appliqué and Exception Merit

I met her at the show and she is so nice and friendly, just a lovely talented lady.  She was so gracious and answered any questions about her masterpiece.

This is my favorite pattern quilt at the moment - I just love all the elements and detail.

A really creative take on the Hunter Star - Best Quilting on Long Arm and Special Merit.

The judges honored me with a Blue Ribbon for my Mother's Garden. (bad phone picture, sorry).
