Aaaahhhh-mish Country

AAahhh, if you have ever visited Lancaster County you know what a treat it is.   I think of it as Quilt Mecca.

I just adore seeing the horse drawn buggies.  I am very respectful of the Amish tradition of NOT being photographed, but I don't think their horses mind.
I had a wonderful shopping and friend day with Kelly (Pinkadot) and Cheryl (Cheryl Lynch Quilts) and Stephanie.  I wish she would jump into the blogging world, hint hint.
I was in fabric heaven at the Old Country Store.  We bumped into a group of members from PTQ who were on a retreat, including my dear friend Susan.
This farm just beckoned to me.  It looks so calm and serene.
I've been experimenting with bread baking on Sundays lately.  Here are two loaves of fluffy Italian bread.  Click here for recipe.
Here is one of two loaves from last Sunday.  It was baked with a water bath and was a little crustier - yum.   Recipe here.
Yesterday I decided to try some little Christmas tree blocks.  And by little, I mean 2 1/2" x 4".
I tried some free pieced trees and I also drew a paper-pieced version.  I liked the pattern free ones the best.
I saw on Kelly's Intagram feed that she was doing the same thing and we never even discussed it!  crazy.   Here are her blocks.
She is using a tutorial on Amy's blog which you can see here.   So obviously I felt like a real stupe struggling along. ha ha.

Tina, of Seaside Stitches has finished her solid swap quilt - isn't it fabulous?
Thank you again, Penn Oak guild for having me come to share my quilts!
And thank you Kelly for hosting me in your gracious home on your gorgeous property.  You have the BEST sewing areas I've ever seen!

I should have titled this post - Lots of Links - 'cause there certainly were.

Great post. Love Amish country in Pennsylvania. Trunk show and teaching are the best!

We were so happy to have you come to our guild! Cheryl, Stephanie and I enjoyed spending the day with you. Next time we will visit Longwood gardens for sure! We are on the same wavelength with the trees (-:

I really enjoyed this post. I hope our program chairperson at Baltimore Applique Society will reach out soon because I'd love to have you come to a program for us. I'll nudge her again. Great little trees. I've been dreaming of a lap size quilt in cream with wonky little green trees, very minimalist if you get the picture. Now that my kids are grown I long for nest-y things at Christmas time. Just ordered my own flannel reindeer sheets to snuggle under during the holiday time.

I also love going to Lancaster. We go every year for the quilt show in the spring. Hope you went across the street to Zook's - it's wonderful too! Also, if you have a chance to go to Burkholder's in Denver, you won't be sorry!

Love getting peeks of things in Lancaster, having never been myself.
The bread looks so good. The crustier, the better. : )
How funny that you and Kelly were each working on very similar blocks. Looks like it will be a really "fun" quilt.
Your "garden" quilt is incredible! What a treat for that guild to have you come.

What a delightful post, from meeting up with friends, enjoying quilts, Lancaster, and yummy baked bread. Getting the crust crunchy can be a challenge. Tina must get the prize for the first finish! Lovely.

It's so wonderful to see these photos of your trip. It's so great you got to spend time with Kelly and her friends. Lancaster County looks so beautiful. Homemade bread is the best. I've got a bread machine and it's not the same as making it fully yourself but it's the next best thing, so much better than shop bought bread. Tinas swap quilt is fabulous!! Beautiful placement of colours!

Thank you for the pictures about Intercourse ! I have seen a few television reports and I know that's a famous town where the Amish are living... and this quilt shop ! OMG .... a little space in heaven !
I'm glad you spent a wonderful time with your dear friends.
And your breads are yummy... For French people, it's very important like water or wine and it's everyday on the table !

Thanks, Barb, you brought back memories of trips to Lancaster--the perfect place to go with quilting friends :) Your breads look yummy! And I love your little Christmas tree blocks. They remind me of the trees Florence Peto put on the cards she made at Christmastime. If I can find a pic I'll send it to you. Tina's quilt turned out great!

I'd say the quilt in the window at Old Country Store was meant for you, but it's purple. Hmmm...maybe it was meant for me. Roadtrip?
