First Finish For 2018

It is only 12" square, but it is a finish!
I used leftover Modern Bow Tie Blocks from the 2015 Swap.  Hanna called "dibs" on it right away.
I use a single binding on these little quilts so there isn't a big bump where it joins the quilt.  Here is a post on how I do it.
 To make my life easier, I start and end with a straight corner, and miter the rest.......Naughty I know, but it's my quilt......
 I ALMOST got the backing straight. Oh well maybe I should have fused it?  any suggestions?
It looked so charming in Hanna's room with her lavender walls.  The lamp was from Target.
How are my swappers doing?  You would think I could find an hour to finish my last 4 blocks right?   ha ha ha.  Maybe today - another snow day here in CT.
Pets really seem to get the whole Hygge philosophy.  Relax Coco.
 I need to switch out Mr. Starbucks Christmas accessories, but he's always in there.

Survey:  What does your family call these?  It is beef, sausage and cheese on a mini pumpernickel bread?  I know of 4 names but wonder if there is more.

I love your little binding trademark. The few leftover bow ties made a great accent in Hannah's room. Like what you did with the quilting as well. I can't add anything to your survey. I've never heard of it before. I'll be curious to what it's called!

I make them every year for Christmas. Years ago someone in the family named them "SOS's." They always disappear quickly.

The quilt is so cute! Love your binding too.
So happy my blocks are done and waiting to get them in the mail.
I have NEVER eaten it but have heard it called S*** on a Shingle.

I love that little quilt. And first finish is first finish - size doesn't matter!! LOVE the cactus lamp! And if it makes you feel any better, I would guess (without actually digging through 3700 records) that at least 75% of the antique quilts we have documented in Maine start with a straight edge and have 3 mitered corners. We now have a tick box on our form to indicate how many mitered corners the binding has. So, thanks for keeping up with tradition! And, my mother made it with chip beef (that funny stuff in a jar!) and we called it Sh.. on a Shingle. Most of my cooking starts with Sh..! If I were wealthy I would have a live in chef!

I am definitely going to use your binding technique on my next little quilt! I've got 36 of my Modern swap blocks done, and will be starting the remaining 18 this afternoon. Looking forward to the swap.

I've heard creamed chipped beef on toast called SOS but never even heard of the beef, sausage cheese combo.

Another fun post! Are you particular about the batting you use in little quilts or do you just use whatever little scraps you have left over from bigger projects? Now that there are two cats in my house, maybe we need a bed!

SOS here! I have over 1/2 of my blocks done. I Love the mini. Love the binding tip, going to try and recall that the next time I bind.

It's a great finish! I love the diagonal lines of quilting and the texture they add. I've never had that sausage, beef, cheese mixture but I bet my husband would love it!

Great finish. It looks perfect with the lamp. I clicked on your blog about the binding but it said I do not have access to it, strange never had that happen before. Thanks for sharing. Yes, the sausage mixture sounds delicious.

Cute bow ties. I finally started my swap blocks today and will work steadily to finish! I have absolutely never heard of that sausage/cheese dish!

Great post! It made my day! My mother made 'Creamed Chipped Beef'(from the little glass jar) but I've never seen your combo...and we'd dare not call it SOS when I was growing up. Ha!

Such a cute little quilt and it looks perfect with the lamp on top :) Great quilting design, too. Fusible batting would have probably helped keep the back straight. I've never even seen those snacks, lol!

The cactus lamp is an interesting piece. The bow tie piece accents it well or vice versa.

Cute finish - what fun to have all those colorful blocks playing together - perfect with the cactus lamp! Neat technique for binding little quilts, I will have to give it a try. Your appetizer is a new one to me, but folks at my house would probably snarf it up!

My mother in-law makes those all the time. My kids love them and request them whenever we are over for holiday or special event. I think she just calls them sausage bread, something simple. I will have to ask. She even makes them ahead and freezes them to use later. Just heat in oven and serve.
