Failing Along - The December Edition

I was so excited to finish the Double Wedding Ring top.....until I noticed a big mistake.
Thank you to everyone who gave me so much encouragement and positive feedback.  Can spot the error?   Here it is below before it was all sewn together.  Check out the red and blue rings.

I will be fixing it and I show you the error at the end of the post.

I saved a Titmouse in our garage recently.  He was so stunned he sat on my hand for about 5 minutes.  I was able to pet him gently.

I  made an elaborate Dickens set up this year.   You can see more photos and videos on my Instagram.  Coco is a real fan.
Andrew and I cut our own tree this year - first time in my life. Okay, he cut, I picked out, ha ha
It was fun and we'll do that again.   It is still completely undecorated.
This year I put out the big vintage lights - just for  fun.  It is very nostalgic for  me to see them with a little snow.
Everything was going well until covid got me.  I got sick last Thursday and on Sunday tested positive for covid.  I had a telehealth appointment and was prescribed Plaxlovid.   Here is the written information.  Yikes.
Luckily I have a spare TV and moved into a guest room for movies and relaxing with Nutmeg.
I've done a little gift crocheting....and some ripping out....thanks covid.
I received this sweet Christmas gift from a quilting friend.   It is perfect for  my morning coffee and my evening wine.  Sometimes the small things mean so much.
I'll leave you with this vintage photo that I found recently.  It is me and my mother 60 years ago this Christmas.  I am 6 months old and she is 20.  She died on December 10, 1996 so it is a very special little photo to me.
I wish you all Health and Happiness during the Holidays.  I want to take this opportunity to thank you for the support and friendship you have shown with me through my quilting and life journeys.
xo

Oh, I almost forgot.  Here is the big mistake:  the center four blocks which were sewn together first, were put in wrong.    The arcs that are circled are inverted.  I need to rotate the whole section clockwise two turns, which is180 degrees, right?
It should look like this - the red ring has all reds arcs, the blue ring has all blue arcs.

Sorry that you have Covid. Hope you heal quickly! Even after seeing your circled errors, I can't see the error. It's a good thing that I don't want to make this quilt....who knows what it would look like.

Merry Christmas.

I have read and reread your explanation of the error and I still don’t see or understand what you did wrong. Looks good to me! Hope you are feeling 100% soon! Going over to Instagram to see your village. We didn’t put ours up this year.

So sorry that Covid got you!!:000--Hoping you will be feeling better soon...
I couldn't even SEE your "mistake"...And I'll bet with quilting it wouldn't even show--but then I don't like re-doing;)))
I hope your Christmas and New Year will be a healthy and a happy one for you and your family...
Hugs, Julierose

I'm glad you have TV and Nutmeg and a room apart, to help you get through Covid. What a bummer! It's easy to forget Covid is still with us. I have been seeing more people masking up. I couldn't see your mistake on the DWR quilt top and had to really look and look again even with your explanation. I 100% would have left that "mistake" in, lol. It is just such a stunning quilt top. Your Dickens village is amazing. Love the vintage lights and your whole style. There is so much to see in the photo of your Mom and you. What a precious heirloom. Merry Christmas, hope you are fully healthy again soon.

I hope your Covid resolves quickly and the rest of the family avoids getting it. Loved your titmouse story - the ones I see are notoriously shy, so it's amazing you were able to hold him! Warm wishes for a happy holiday season!

The picture of you and your mom is so sweet. You were a cute baby, your mom looks so young.
It to me a while to see the mistake. I understand fixing it. Every time you looked at it that's all you would see. And it's a wedding quilt for your beautiful daughter : )

So sorry you have had Covid and I sincerely hope you are healing rapidly! I couldn’t find the error on my own, but got it as soon as you showed the marked photo. With today’s “improv aesthetic” you could have gotten away with leaving it, but I understand that wasn’t your intent. It’s a truly gorgeous quilt!! And that photo of your mom and you is really precious. Hope you are well enough to enjoy the rest of the holiday season. I look forward to reading about your thoughts and adventures in 2023 and seeing what you make! Maybe I’ll see you at the Vermont Quilt Festival!

I just love love love your wedding ring quilt!!! I did not notice the oops at first. Funny how we often notice these things after it’s together…
I hope you are feeling better soon. Sounds like you are well cared for . Nutmeg is a good companion and there are lots of Christmas movies to watch right now. We have found some on Netflix and Prime that are not Hallmarky.
Nice hat! I don’t know how to crochet but I do a bit of knitting.
Take care. Gail at the Cozy Quilter

Well, I never did spot the error in that quilt! I'm happy that you discovered it before it was quilted and bound though. Sorry to hear you've been down with covid, hope your recovery is swift. There's a lot of covid and influenza going on in our area, hitting the multi-vaccinated as well as unvaccinated about evenly. Hope you're back to having fun very soon. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

Like others, I never spotted the mistake, and believe that even if you'd finished it that way, no one would be the wiser (except you). :-) I'm sorry you got COVID, but honestly, haven't we all? You have the advantage over me though, getting treatment. I didn't realize I had COVID and never contacted the doc, so I just got over it. Hope your treatment is helpful. At least you're getting quiet handwork time! (Always looking for the positive side of a bad situation. ) First time cutting down a Christmas tree?! Oh my! My parents owned a Christmas tree farm at one time, so an artificial tree has never crossed our threshold. I'm sure you'll enjoy the fresh one, though picking up needles is the negative side of it. Recover well and have a merry Christmas!

I love your first Christmas photo! You look like your mother, don't you? I had to go back and forth to figure out the mis-piecing. You could have declared it a design element but if you're like me that would stick out like a sore thumb and irritate the dickens out of you forever. So it's good that you discovered and corrected it now!

Too bad about Covid, but glad you were able to get Paxlovid. I'm sure it will help you feel better soon to celebrate the holidays. Hurray to you for being able to catch the rings in the wrong position, but not many people would have seen it. Happy holidays!

I'm so sorry to hear you got Covid--my husband had it, too. It took me a couple tries to see your DWR error. I would have contemplated leaving it but knew deep down that it would bother me forever. Glad you caught it in time to fix it. I love that photo of you and your mom. What a treasure! Merry Christmas, Barb!

That is a gorgeous quilt! I wouldn't have noticed the error, but it does look better fixed. So sorry you got sick, but I hope you are feeling much better now.

I love this quilt so much that there is a huge chance I will try and make one similar. Mine would be totally scrappy, as could not cope with lining up the coloured rings.

Only YOU would notice that "mistake" I'd call it artistic license.
