Happy Halloween!

Happy Halloween!
A made this swag for Hanna.  Someone sent the fabric to me and I just can't remember who but thank you!  It is so cute.
I hung my Apple Core for the month.
Here are some of our other decorations.
Hanna decorated a little tree with our glass Halloween ornaments.  The nail stickers are from TJMax.
Whew - the swap is complete and they are all on their way to the swappers.
Here is a setting that I'm playing with with my solids.
Here's a real treat!  Have you seen this cake at the store?  I was sceptical but you use fresh eggs and fresh butter.  Hooray!!  I added a TBs of Kahlua to the cake mix and it added a lot of richness.  (I happened to make this on a Friday - hence the Margaritas, lol).
Hanna and I had some Halloween fun at the zoo.
the sunglasses really make it, huh?  ha ha
Hope you have a Happy Halloween filled with fun and lots of Chocolate.

Day of the Dead

Otherwise known as:  Dia le dos Muertos     Here is a link to a wonderful website with lots of photos and details about the festival here.

My DofD quilt:  I See Dead People:  Ode' to Freida Kahlo made in 2003.
I did a meandering cross hatch with variegated thread.
the backing showing the full fabric.
I have 2 yards of this fabulous candy skull fabric.  Have to find a place to use it.
Here is my all time favorite DofD quilt "Amigos Muertos" made by:  Jonathan Shannon in 1994.  It was made as a memorial quilt for friends who had died of AIDS.  Look a those incredible Mexican flag applique' blocks.  Wow - still love this quilt.
There was quite a controversy when AQS wouldn't allow it in their show due to its "sad nature".  I still have Jonathan's open letter regarding censorship.
This year I added these fun earings to my collection.
and sheila sent me this mug.
Susan gave me these stickers last week.  It's so great that my friends "get me".
Little display that I always have on my quilt book shelf.
I made a funny block for the Stars in a Time Warp sew along to mark Halloween and DofD.
Halloween round up:
coco went as a "hot dog".  I made her a collar accessory to complete her look.
At the Howl-een party at doggie school she won a pedi-pedi for most creative costume.  Good girl coco for sitting for your portrait.
I did a quick witch dress up to go bowling on Saturday....Mr. Fun is such a good sport about my nonsense.

Well that's all folks.  I'm off to NJ for The Brownstone Quilters Quilt Show.  Click here for the details.  Hope to see some of you!

Scary Good Fun!

My favorite Halloween quilt:  Poisoned Apple from 2012.  I hope you don't mind a little repeat.
I've been working on Halloween hexie blocks at recent workshops.  These are so so fun!  I offer a starter kit for these in my Etsy shop.
Scarecrows on Parade!   As I mentioned, our town has a scarecrow display every year.  Coco and took a stroll and here are some that we really liked.
At the Library - love the dog!
Poor "Carrie" she lost her head in the wind.
The Seahorse Inn - they change their sign every year.
 The French Pastry School
 Local landscaper
 The street view in town
Coco is getting a closer look at the realtor and scary dog display.  She's wearing her special Halloween Ribbon collar
 Might be my favorite!
Or this one - love those minion hay bales!
This looks a little like my boy, Andrew - especially when he took a painting class in college.
While staying at Susan's last week, I took these photos of her decorations.  Love this tossed salad with vintage tableware.
Here is my outdoor display.  I love how dusty miller fronds look with pumpkins. This looks cool and creepy in a bird bath.
Tomorrow I'm off to visit The Pieced Together Quilters for a lecture and trunk show.   They are in central western NJ if you want to visit and see my quilts.
Hope your Halloween is Scary Good Fun!

Happy Halloween - treats and a scare!

I just made one of my seasonal favorites; rice krispie treats.  So simple, yet classic and elegant.  Speaking of classics, I listened to Bram Stoker's Dracula.  Slow, but good.

My buddy Norma made the ceramic pumpkin and also sent me the napkins.  Thanks Norma!

This is a great time of year to make Apple Crisp.  I found an easy recipe here.  I used 4 different apples and it was delicious.

Now the scary part....coco had a close encounter with another dog at dog day camp on Wednesday.  We were straight off to the vet with a torn ear.  Poor thing.  They glued it and taped it.  We wrapped her head to prevent ear shaking and flapping.

Doesn't she look sad?  She's on the drugs.  They gave her a tranquilizer.

Yesterday she was still zonked out.  Here she is keeping it elevated, lol.

Today, I'm happy to report she is back to her old self.  We took a walk through town.  She was wearing her Halloween halo.

Our town has a scarecrow event every year.  This was my favorite today:

I didn't dress up this year, but I did make funny cartoons of me and Rich.

If you want to waste a little time and have a little fun you can make your own here.

Happy Halloween!  See you next week with a long awaited finished project.
