Love Birds

I finished my Friend Sew Along top and I'm calling it  "Love Birds"
It measures 50" x 56" and is made of many orphaned and rescued blocks and 4 Star Swap 2019 blocks.

Here are some close ups of some of the blocks.  I love to include little moments of whimsy using novelty prints.

This was the center block when I started.  Pretty Bare Boned.

After adding 2 birds, more leaves and more berries.  More is More.
An early audition of things.....almost none of this idea stuck.
When working without a set pattern, it is really important for me to stay open to revisions and changes along the way.  It is a fun journey.

Nutmeg doesn't seem to be having fun, lol.  She is waiting for sewing room treats.
I'm continuing to hand quilt the Whig Rose when it is not too hot or humid.  Here are my favorite notions for hand quilting.
I purposefully put these three greens in close proximity on this block because they are 3 versions of the SAME FABRIC.

Green flower with yellow center on green background with coral or twig fill.

I'm also working on a UFO project of Jill Reids'.  She did not like applique', she might have said she hated it but she started this group project back in 2006-2007.
Jill loved Northwood Themes and this quilt has quite a few.
I need to embroider the ropes for the Hot Air Ballon.
When I picked up the project earlier this year, I found her needle here in the Heart in Hand block.  It nearly broke my heart remember Jill.
I'll be sharing more about this group project in another post soon.
I need to get a photo of Susan McDs (hint hint) :)

On a final note, Alice F. sent me a photo of her finished Quarantini Quilt - 9 Olives.  Isn't it cute?  Thank you Alice for sharing the photo.
My free tutorial is here if you want to make one.

Have a great week and I'll see you again soon!
stay well

Just Peachy! You?

Late Summer means Peach Pie!  My recipe is at the end of this post.
Peaches are such a nostalgic comfort food.
Add sugar, egg and butter
and it is summer heaven.
Big News here in Fun Land!
My son, Andrew, has finished nursing school with very high marks.  He will sit for his boards this fall and also start the BSN degree with 3 more semesters which will be on-line.

Because of Covid there is no pinning or graduation :(
so we celebrated with pizza :)
We went to Sally's in New Haven.  They were set up very safely and the pizza was fabulous.   (note the potty trailer in the background....nope).
Last weekend I made pesto for the first time.   It was fabulous!  Next year I will be planting more pesto.  That vintage Cuisinart was a wedding gift 33 years ago!  Still works perfectly.
I used this recipe and I've been spreading it on just about everything and really like it on eggs.
Oh Look, finally some sewing!
I'm working on my Friendship Medallion quilt project.   I've added another bird and Nutmeg approves!  She loves birds almost as much as I do.
I'm still working on getting everything to fit together.  Fitting everything together is the challenge of every medallion, don't you think?  No, the quarantini won't be in the finished quilt.
I'm doing this little challenge with Wendy, The Constant Quilter, and Randy, The Barrister's Block.  Visit their blogs to see their progress.

Speaking of Randy, she sent me a few jigsaws and I've started this one.  What a cute sewing puzzle.  Thanks, Randy!
I hope you are doing well and find some nice home activities to pass the time of Covid.

Round 5 - Ding

I'm spending time each and everyday quilting.  I'm on Round 5.
I've enjoyed revisiting all my scrappy clams.
I'm using a link roller on sections before I begin quilting and I'm removing markings as I go too.
Quilting outside on the deck is fabulous.  It is so easy to see my markings.
Nutmeg is very curious about the outdoors and we are lucky to have a deck that doesn't lead to yard so she can enjoy a little fresh air.
She kept sleeping on my quilt which was okay until I had to turn the hoop.
She finally found her own spot.
I guess she is settling in.  Everyone loves her orange arm and her cute markings.
Many people have asked how she is getting along with coco.   Really great.
coco is so gentle and has always lived with cats, so no problem.
I hung my Olympic Star quilt in the hall for summer.
I love hand quilting on a white quilt.
My container gardens are loving all the rain.
Oooh my lime coleus really glows in morning light.
 Sedums
Some people like to watch Women's World Cup Soccer while sitting in a box.  Go USA
I'm driving up to the Vermont Quilt Festival tomorrow for a 1 day viewing and meet up with Randy D. and Wendy.   I'm bringing stencils with me so if you see me and want one, let me know or just say hi.

Happy Summer Stitching!

Welcome March

Pineapple is the International Symbol of Welcome, so Welcome March.
started the next 2
I am almost finished quilting the center of my medallion quilt~
I hope to finish it this weekend.
It is really easy to get a bit lost and have to go back and fill in.
I'm quilting the leaves in all different ways just for fun.
Annie took a little dip in my scrap bin
And now she is ready to have a visit with Molly.  Janet, of Rogue Quilter, sent me the adorable pineapple pincushion.
Molly looks like she is being productive
While Annie (my mini-me doll) is gossiping and waiting for 5 o'clock to roll around, lol
I feel so much better with them dressed and doing things than laying around uncared for or in storage.

Here is a talk that Gwen gave at the opening of her solid color exhibit at the Dennos Museum in MI.  Have a cup of coffee and enjoy.
Here is another lecturer, this time by Gerald Roy.  It is on Color at the opening of the exhibit at the Boston Museum of Fine Art.
This book was recommended to me and I can't tell you how much I am enjoying it.  It centers around the Los Angeles Central Library Fire of 1986 but is full of so much history and storytelling about Libraries you almost forget the fire.
Happy March Everyone!

p.s. It is funny, I wanted to run a poll to see whether blogging is even relevant anymore, but they discontinued that gadget.  Readership is getting lower and lower so I really wonder.
