Big Fun on Hump Day

Happy Hump Day!   I finished the Boy Quilt Top.  I used Sujata's new book.  The blocks were really fun to make.   Hooray, it's all from stash fabric!
My stencils have arrived and I'm open for business at my new Etsy store.  My mailing supplies came and I'm ready to ship.  Thank you, Linda, for being my very first customer!

**Update 1/22/15 the Large Baptist Fan stencils are sold out.   I have re-ordered more and will let you know when they arrive.  I still have the Double Fans.  Sorry!**

Since my main goal was to have them produced for my own use, I've reduced the cost as much as I can, considering the shipping, so that they are affordable.  As I said to Rich.  I don't have to make money, just not lose money.

Nancy, asked me about the quilt that was under my potholder project on the last post.   So I'm re-sharing it here today.

It was a challenge quilt that I made in 2008.  We were each given a 1/2 yard of the Asian print and had to use it.   I added all solid fabrics.  I would call this a modern quilt, wouldn't you?  Imagine, a modern quilt - before the modern quilt movement.  (meow)
It may appear very random, but all of my scrap quilts contain some order.  Can you find the order?  Order always makes scrap quilts more pleasing.  If you figure it out (or make a guess), I'll put your name in to win this custom made potholder.
This backing is one piece but really looks like patchwork.  I wish I had more of this one!
I'm still working on my antler project.  It is proving to be a difficult one and I've had some set backs.  I hope to show it to you soon.

One other bit of exciting news;  I own the domain name FunWithBarb.com.  Now that domain is automatically redirected here to the blog where all Fun can be found.  (sounds like a small thing, but it took me several days ;0 - Thanks again, Anna, for your techy help.)

Good luck in the potholder drawing!  I'll ship anywhere.

Crafts and Carnival Lunch

Hooray!  I was able to get together with the cupcake girls last week.

We made potholders!  These are the potholders that I used to make as a girl.  I still have my original red metal loom from the late 60's.

****After publication this morning, due to early interest, here is a website that carries good, sturdy looms and cotton loops for making these wonderful potholders.  Have fun!****  http://www.kitkraft.biz/home.php?cat=214&gclid=CPacnuHoy6gCFaNd5QodDR3rpA

They are still my favorite potholders to use.   They sit patiently atop a covered pot, have a nice grip for carrying pots and they also make great trivets.

We started with a little sustenance.  Jill made these beautiful homemade lemon and poppy seed scones. They tasted as good as they looked.

Nothing pleases me more than a kitchen table covered with crafts.

Here is one that Susan was working on.

And one that I made.

This was my favorite on the day.  Jill's potholder looks like a four patch.

For lunch I decided to make junk food.  Hot Dogs with Saurkraut, Sweet Potato Waffle Fries and Root Beer Floats for dessert.

Carnival food is one of my favorite things.  If it's sold out of a brightly colored wagon, I love it.

Coco exhausted herself by jumping all over the girls when they arrived and then stealing a tiny chocolate bunny from Jill.  What a dogs life.

Still busy with 2 projects that I can't share yet.  I did go to a local quilt show and I'll share the photos later this week.

Have a great week!

Twenty-Fun

April - Ah, at last.....spring flowers, soft breezes, warm rain - Love it!

Pansies are always my first nursery purchase - I can not resist their sweet happy faces!

A man, a buddy, a beer and a dog, does it get any better? Not on your 21st Birthday! Andrew turned 21 on Wednesday. The big "party" is in a couple of weeks when he visits his college friends, so Wednesday was a low key, fun, family day.

Hanna and I did a little creative work on his car.

Retro craft anyone? Now those who know me well know that I can be an old fashion gal. I wear a apron, cook dinner five nights a week, bake cakes. One of my favorite kitchen tools is a good potholder. Here is my shabby collection, some made by the kids over 10 years ago.

I ordered some new cotton loops on line, got out my original red painted steal frame from the 60's and got to work. It was really fun and I now have 4 new potholders.

Hanna and I went on a 3 day college trip this week. We clocked over 1300 miles and visited 3 schools. I survived PA this time, with only one small direction mishap. The problem with PA is that if you go the wrong way, the only way to correct it is to go back and try again because of the mountains. So the curse of PA only cost me a little time and a little gas on this trip.

Have a great weekend everyone!
