Challenge Accepted!

Here is the big reveal of the word challenge quilts my small sewing group created.  We had such a fun time making these.

My word is Bee.  Can you guess what each block represents?  Click the photo to see my baby bead embellishments.
We each picked a word and made 9 blocks to depict the word. We connected the blocks with the pot holder method.

Thank you Wendy Reed of Constant Quilter who has a great tutorial.  Wendy makes incredible award winning quilts with this method.  She has a wonderful blog that always inspires me.

Norma's word is Cat~
Pauline's word is Eye.
Nancy' word is Time.
Fun, right?  what word would you use?

Special thank you to Pauline for making our story cards.  They are just great.

Whig Rose Update:
Hooray!  I finished my last block.  I am setting them with a zillion HST.
Thank goodness for Triangles on a Roll.  They come perfect with no trimming.  Extra steps on the front end for great results on the back end are worth it for me.
I can't decide if I like them radiating, or going all the same way.  What do you think?  It's hard for me to be impartial when I see it so often.
I get a lot questions about adding lettering to my quilts.  I use Microsoft Word and print out the letters on the computer.  I enlarge them to about 350%.

I also like to make plastic templates because it makes marking them easy and more accurate.  I don't mind extra steps that produce excellent results.
A Cooper Hawk came for a visit and we had a great view out the kitchen window.
Have a Great Day!

challenges and Nutmeg

Here is an update of my small groups' project.
My word is Bee
From Top Left:  Spelling Bee, Bee-dazzled (which I redid), Bees Knees, Beeswax, Bee Happy and Queen bee.

Nancy's word is Time
Show Time, Time Bomb, Wasting Time, The Time is Ripe, Saving time and Time Weighs Heavy.

Pauline's word is Eye
Eye of the World, Black Eyed Susan, Seeing Eye Dog, Private Eye, My, What big Eyes you have and Pink Eye.

Norma's word is Cat
Cat and Mouse, Raining Cats and Dogs, Cat's Pajamas, Eye Cat-cher, Cat in the Hat and Cat Nap.

We have decided to make 9 so there will be three more each.  It has been a fun challenge.

I found this pattern on the free table at guild.  I found it amazing that it is handwritten.  The drawing is charming.
I loved this notation;  My sentiment exactly.
The last page really struck me as odd as it is very technical and also typed?  funny.
Here's NUTMEG!
With the help of my friend Norma, we adopted her from a shelter in New Jersey.
She is only 3 months old.  She is very sweet and has such pretty markings and olive green eyes.
She Loves to Play!
I'm really working hard to finish the quilting on my Medallion Quilt.  I'll share progress soon.

Word Challenge

My sewing group is taking on a new challenge.  Here is our first reveal:
The Challenge is to pick a word and make a little quilts or blocks using that word.

We were inspired by two quilts at the Northern Star Quilt Show.

This word is SQUARE - square dance, Times square, etc.
This word is APPLE - the Big Apple, Apple Computer, etc..
We decided on a 9" block and will make one monthly and reveal them when get together.  Here are our first blocks.

Norma's word is CAT:  Cat's Pajamas
Pauline's word is EYE:  Eye of the World
Nancy's word is TIME:  Showtime
My word is BEE:  Queen Bee
I am planning to make 9 blocks and make a wall hanging for my sewing room using the potholder method like my buddy Wendy at The Constant Qulter. who has perfected this technique.

I think it will be great fun and I have so many ideas for my word.  Stay tuned or jump in and pick a word to start your own.

Happy Labor Day Weekend!
