Hello Out There

I made this in 2006 with swap blocks from a Yahoo Group.  Remember Those?  I love a simple strippy quilt, don't you?
It is official; this is longest break I've taken on my blog but I'm still committed.   Thank you so much for continuing to read and comment.  I write it for myself, but I love the little community that has stayed with me over the years.

This a very old nine patch that I made with swap blocks from my Piecemakers group in Illinois.  I love a simple strippy quilt, don't you?

I've stalled a little on my daughters DWRQ, but I've made progress.
I got called out a little on FB for using so many pins.  I know I wouldn't need this many with just two fabrics, but when you are adding the pieced arcs, it really helps and doesn't distort or pull the seams on the arc.
So I've been busy with Mr. Fun who had a knee replacement about 11 days ago.  What a nice dog visitor at the hospital.
Lots of meds to administer.  Home PT and recovery is going very well.
It has been a pretty fall here in CT.  Azure blue skies and pretty oranges and yellows.
I hope this caterpillar makes it before the frost.
My town is having their annual scarecrow festival.  I love to take coco and check them out.  How cute is this one?
and Frida
On a recent family trip to Washington DC, we visited the African American Museum of History and Culture.
I was thrilled to see this Amazing Quilt in person!  It was made by Jesse B. Telfair, circa 1975.   She was fired from her kitchen job for  registering to vote.
I'll be working at the polls next week, so please keep a thought for me and our Democracy.

Hi Barb, Don’t worry about the “pinning police”.
You have beautiful workmanship; do whatever works for you and makes you happy.
Love your photos, we’re having the most beautiful fall here as well.
Take care, Chris

Enjoy your blog so much, thank you for continuing to post.
I know it must take time.

You can use as many pins as you want. Just do whatever works for you. I always us them when doing curves. I always love seeing your quilts and reading your posts. I hope Mr Fun is getting better and more mobile every day. Looks like he has a great caregiver! Gail at the Cozy Quilter.

I'm so sorry for Mr. Fun...I hope he's not in too much pain and wish him a speed recovery!
Your quilt is gorgeous! I really like his colors!

I hope Mr. Fun is keeping up with his PT. Recovery is quicker that way, too bad it doesn't bring joy at the time. Soon he'll be up and running again! There's no such thing as too many pins unless it's in a voodoo doll that looks like me! Ha!

Good morning, I do love your strippy, scrappy nine patch quilt. It is the perfect quilt to showcase your lovely front door, mums and pumpkins. The DWRQ is stunning and I love the bright colors you've chosen. I agree with others - use as many pins as you like. Your workmanship always inspires and challenges me to become a better quilter. kelley

Yes, we always love a strippy quilt especially one that includes lots of cheddar. The fall colors have been very pretty here too. Glad Mr. Fun is progressing well. I hear it's a challenging procedure. Your DWRQ is lovely. Hey, we sew whatever way we want to get good results. And your results are always awesome.

Nice to read your post, Barb. Hope your husband is kickin' soon! Glad you've been able to travel and keep up with quilting. Autumn colors have been beautiful this year.

Barb: When I was teaching quilting, I always told students they could always pin more than I do but never less. I would have used that many pins on those curves; you go, girl! Pinning is severely underrated in my book. Good luck to Mr. Fun. Good luck at the polls! Love all of your quilts and appreciate the time and care you use to create them. If it's not broken, don't fix it 'til it is. Happy Halloween to everyone.

Nice post, welcome back. Why would anyone care how many pins another person uses for their piecing?! I use pins when needed, that is, when I want the piecing to be as accurate as possible. The double wedding ring is a show-stopper! Thanks for sharing.

Love your nine patch quilt. You keep right on using as many pins as you like, it works for you and that is all that matters.

Love your simple strippy! The pin police! Aargh! That's annoying. You are doing what works for you.
Glad to hear hubby is recovering well.
We saw that quilt too last week and I brought my inspired quilt to photograph with the original.
Sounds like you are doing great. :)

I use lots of pins when I feel it is necessary. Beautiful fall pictures. We live in Florida and do not have the change of seasons. So I love to see the trees in all their glory.

So happy to see you in Blogland again. Wishing Mr. Fun a speedy recovery so he can get back into the fun for the holidays. What a lovely quilt. Love that the same fabric was used for the final border. It makes a different design that I haven't seen yet in a strippy. Awesome job! DWRQ is so much fun. Hey, who's counting the pins? Mind your own biscuit and life will be gravy! I'm learning how to sew curves through your notes, Barb, so pin away. :^D Love the Halloween deco. Enjoy! ;^)

Hi Barb. Hope Mr Fun’s knee continues to improve - bet you’re a wonderful nurse! And go you with the pins - only way to get the curves on a DWR accurate.

DWR is on my bucket list, and yours is inspiring. It's a timeless pattern and looks great no matter the palette. But your solids are fantastic! When did pins become something to avoid? It's funny, but my piecing seems more accurate when I pin...lol.
I had a TKR in 2019, and I'm so glad I did. For me, the biggest challenge was having patience with the healing. Sometimes during the first months, I felt like I wasn't getting anywhere. But I really was, and it's all good now.
All the best to you and Mr. Fun.

It's so great to see a post from you. I've been behind on my blog reading. You've been busy. Best wishes for Mr. Fun and his knee! Your strippy quilt is punchy and classic and I adore the color of your doorway! Wow your DWRQ is shaping up to be a stunner. The foliage is amazing. The scarecrow festival - what a neat thing.

I'm happy to see this post, Barb, though I have been absent a long time myself. It is good to catch up.
Love, love, love that strippy 9-patch! So classic! And the colors make it great for fall.
Why does anyone feel the need to call you out for pinning?? It makes for greater ease and accuracy in stitching things such as curves, and I say use as many as you want. I am a pinner myself, and wonder why anyone else feels compelled to comment on it?
Looks like Nurse Barb has had her hands full. I'm sure Mr. Fun appreciates your care. Hope his recovery goes well.
Lovely fall shots, and I love the idea of a scarecrow festival.
Thanks for sharing the Freedom quilt and the story behind the maker. We have taken much for granted for too long!
I will definitely keep you and our democracy in my thoughts and prayers going into the election. I was a poll worker for decades, until they went with mail-in ballots or drop-off ballots in our county several years ago. Luckily, I haven't seen any vigilantes at drop boxes that I have driven past. It is a tense time to be a poll worker. It used to be pretty calm and easy business.

Such beautiful fall colours in nature, in scarecrow festival displays, and in quilts! Hope hubby is doing well in his recovery.

LOVE the Frida scarecrow - so creative! I hope Mr. Fun continues to recuperate successfully and that you have a peaceful election day!

You and Hannah look like sisters standing there. That's a sad story accompanying the quilt. Makes your heart ache. Be safe at the polls. We will be on vacation so we did absentee this year. Hope all is well with Rich and his recuperation. Thank you for always being faithful to your blog and the friends you have made here. Its always a treat to come here and read your writing and see your photos. xoxoxo

Beautiful fall colors, I love fall in the US because the colors are so stunning.
I use a lot of pins too when making curves. It makes the stitching so much easier. Love how our quilt turns out and the quilt on the doorstep is very pretty too! It really matches the front door.
That museum is on my wish list to visit next time I will be visiting DC. Have a wonderful day.

I love the 9-patches and I love the way you set them on point!! In fact I just made a quilt with the 9-patches from the block exchange that you set up several years ago! I finally put them together and it is basted and ready to quilt. I think I'll use your baptist fan stencil for the quilting. I posted it on my blog today after quite a long break. The time seems to be getting away from me.

Love your strippy quilt and it looks so pretty on the steps. It picks up the same colors as your front entrance. Your DWR piecing is perfect and it's all because of those pins :) So glad to hear Mr. Fun is making progress. Such a sweet visitor. The leaves were really spectacular this year. Thanks for the scarecrow festival pics!
