Sewing: What Else?

This is a little dolly quilt I made for my friend, Diane Burdin's Birthday. Who can resist a purple basket quilt?
I only had a fat quarter of this fabric but I just had to use it on the back.  It paired perfectly.
It looked very sweet on my little spool doll bed for  a few days.
I'm continuing to work on my Vedderstone Ranch.  Here are the latest houses:  Bunkhouse and Implement Shed.
This is what's on the wall - this is not the layout.
This was an inspiration quilt that I really like.
Last weekend we went to a wedding in Indianapolis by way of Philadelphia (both ways) and I saw this interesting art installation.
We were rushing to our connecting flight so I didn't get to see the information plaque (if there was one).
It looks like found objects maybe.  I wish I had had more time to look at it.  I'm amazed at airport art.  It can be really great!

Linda Swanekamp sent me a photo of her Star Swap Blocks.   Read more on her blog here.  She really went the extra mile making these double stars with lots of great black and whites.  I love it!  Can you spot your stars?
Just when I thought I was done.....I found an arc that needed big stitch.
I love how it looks on the back as well.
As for  sewing today....I'll be sewing the binding down on the Double Wedding Ring quilt!  woo hoo!

I'm doing well on my Black Films.  I'm concentrating on the top 50.
I'm also working on the Oscar Nominations.  They are always problematic in terms of equality.
Thanks for  stopping by!  Happy Sewing.

knock knock

I'm here....chugging along.   I made a little left over quilt of tiny crosses.

The only doll I had that it seems appropriate for is my Troll.

I attended another workshop with Maria Shell through the Brownstone Quilt Guild.  This time it was for the kitchen sink quilt.

Here is where it started with some Fun With Barb Swap Blocks.

Then I added some more blocks and deleted some.
And now with more black and white.
I've started sewing big areas together.  Always a good challenge to get it all connected.
My sweet and spicy Nutmeg who loves to lay on the warm ironing board.  She is good company on these long stay home days.  Shes not mad, that is her resting bi**h face.
A sneak peak at what else I'm working on.  What could these be??
I have recently joined 2 new guilds that are offering wonderful programs via Zoom.  That brings my total to 5 guild memberships!  I have really enjoyed seeing a variety of inspiring lectures.
I listened to this a podcast by the BBC.  I guess you could say I was trying to escape the world as it is at the moment.
I also watched this 12 episode series on HBO.    I couldn't believe it is already 22 years old.  It is still wonderful!
Incredible to think that in 1969 we put a man on the moon and now in 2020 we question science.   What on earth?.....which is why I visited the Moon.

I received this card from my Ninigret Secret Pal.  As she said "Ideas for you next House Quilt!"
I love to look through the windows to the real scene outside :)
Have a good week and take care!

Fabulous Four Patch!

Is my son studying this quilt, or wondering why I am?
Can you believe I got this quilt for free?  I won it at my Ninigret Quilt Guild Meeting.    I've been using these books to determine how old it is.
I put it around 1830 (wendy and I agree there are fabrics as early as 1830 - and some a bit later.) It was very hard to photograph inside because of its size:  94" x 100".
It is also super fragile, everytime I move it is crumbles more.
The fabrics are fun to study and compare to the books' examples.  The 4 Patches and Plain setting blocks are 8 1/4", so the squares are 4 1/8" or about.
I'd love to propose a fabric line based on these.  Anyone have an suggestions on how to do that?
There are many "economy" patches.  This one has been pieced 3 times.
It is quilted in a log cabin pattern that has nothing to do with the patchwork.  Interesting!
Andrew helped me to gently lay it on the grass to take some photos from the deck above.
Here are just some of the emerging patterns I noticed.   There is quite a bit of symmetry and I do love to study symmetry.
does anyone (Wendy or Barbara) know why the corners are off?
I feel lucky to have an opportunity to study this quilt.  It might be a good Swap Block idea for the next swap.

I'll be participating in the 2019 Bloggers Meet and Greet on September hosted by Benita Skinner.   There are some fabulous prizes to win and you might find a few new blogs to read.
You can read all about it here~ 2019 Bloggers Meet and Greet and Win!

Robin of I Like to Create Blog used my fan stencil to finish this beautiful quilt.   You can read the entire post here.
I whipped up this little gift quilt for someone.  I hope she likes it.
birdy backing fabric.
And "It's Happening".....fall is in the air.
see you soon
